Last year they were just too young and honestly weren't real great basketball players yet. This year a lot of those guys have another year under their belts, and they also have a couple freshmen that contribute some good minutes.

Also, last year when Jae'Sean Tate went out for the season about 3/4 the way through the season and missed the rest of year, that's when the Buckeyes boat sank. He's the heart of their team.

After a close first half, it looked like the Buckeyes would pull away, but Fairleigh Dickinson hung touch and kept it close. OSU won this game 70-62.

Leading the Buckeyes were Marc Loving (18pts), Kam Williams (17pts), Jae'Sean Tate (12pts, 12rebounds) and Trevor Thompson (10pts, 13rebounds).

Leading Fairleigh Dickinson was Darian Anderson with 17 points.

Next game up for the Buckeyes is Tuesday when they host Florida Atlantic.

In an upset, Florida Atlantic (3-5) defeated Ohio State (7-2) in Columbus, 79-77 in OT. After playing a very impressive game against #6 Virginia on the road, the Buckeyes have had two less than stellar performances against sub par teams.

Adonis Filer led the Owls with 23 points. Leading the losing effort for the Buckeyes was Jae'Sean Tate with 14 points and 7 rebounds.

The Buckeyes host another game this Saturday against UConn, who is kind of in the same boat as Ohio State, so this should be a good matchup.

Ohio State (8-2), got back on track tonight with an important non-conference win over UConn (4-5), 64-60. This was a very entertaining basketball game with lots of ups and downs and lead changes. Leading the Buckeyes was Tristan Thompson with a monster game of 17 points and 17 rebounds. Leading the Huskies was Jalen Adams with 19 points.

Next up for the Buckeyes is #2 UCLA when they clash next Saturday in Las Vegas.

Ohio State (8-3) was unable to overcome a high powered UCLA (12-0) team and fell 86-73. Marc Loving led the Buckeyes in the losing effort with 19 points. UCLA had a balanced scoring effort with 2 players tied for the team lead at 20 points each, Aaron Holiday and Bryce Alford.

The Buckeyes next game is on Tuesday when they host Youngstown State.

Buckeyes are just one big man away from being a top ten team

Buckeyes do have a very good big man, I don't believe that is their problem. Trevor Thompson has really stepped up this year in the post. Their man problem is that they are still fairly inconsistent, with only one senior. Their one senior is Marc Loving and he is supposed to be their "best player" which I don't think he is. He's too inconsistent and always settles for taking contested shots and turns the ball over a little too much.

Big man as in scoring...not so much in height

Gotcha, I thought you meant the other. They do have people that can score big, but don't do it on a regular basis.

I am afraid the BasketBucks will be staking their claim to a NCAA tournament berth on quality losses. Despite having some talent, I have seen little leadership and consistent hustle from Matta's team. The UCLA game score was respectable, but it still wound up in the loss column. Ohio State looks to be at best a middle of the pack in the BIG and a bubble team for the dance in March.

If the Buckeyes finish mid pack of the B1G, they are probably dancing in March. I don't see one team in the B1G that can even remotely be called bad except maybe Nebraska, I could see a large majority of the B1G in the Big Dance.

After facing a tough UCLA team on Saturday in Las Vegas, Ohio State (9-3) was able to get back in the win column tonight at home against in-state foe Youngstown State (6-7), 77-40. The Penguins only managed 14 points in the first half and had more success in the second half but was no match for the Buckeyes in the 37 point difference. The Buckeyes were led by the trio of Jae'Sean Tate, Kam Williams and Keita Bates-Diop who all poured in 15 points a piece. The Penguins were led by Matt Donlan who scored 10 points.

OSU has just one non-conference game remaining, they host UNC Asheville on Thursday before heading into B1G play on New Years Day.

Ohio State (10-3) earned a hard fought win in their game tonight against a very tough UNC Asheville (8-5) team in Columbus, 79-77. Every time it looked like OSU was going to pull away, UNC Asheville came right back. The Buckeyes were assessed two late technical fouls in the 2nd half that kept Asheville in the game, and those were questionable techs (at best). The Buckeyes were led by JaQuan Lyle (17pts) and Asheville was led by MaCio Teague (21pts).

That ends the non-conference schedule for the Buckeyes. They are now off until new year's day when they open B1G play at Illinois.
