Marshall Parts Ways With Doc Holliday

Post by Omega »

Marshall University has decided not to renew the contract of head football coach Doc Holliday. Holliday who was just recieved CUSA coach of year honors, was 85-54 in 11 years at Marshall with 6 bowl wins. The Metro News story indicates that WV Governor Jim Justice and Marshall's board orchestrated the firing. Also Holliday is given credit for running a clean program with improved graduation rates over his predecessors.

What this means for Marshall football going forward I do not know. Build for a better future? Prep for football downsizing?
Honestly, can the state of WV afford two D1 FBS programs?

This year was tough on the Herd. With Covid to start the season and multiple games canceled. Won a lot of games with a freshmen QB who cooled off at the end of the season. Doc may not be the best coach. This year with limited games they were on national TV more often. Not sure if Marshall has what it takes to get and keep someone who can move the program to the next level.
