Ohio State Escapes Upset in Big10 Champ Game, 22-10.

Post by Omega »

Buckeyes trailing Northwestern 10-3 midway through 2nd quarter. OSU looking lethargic and out of synch.

Northwestern 10-6 at half. Buckeyes have only two field goals in three red zone trips. NW ended the half intercepting Fields in the end zone. All credit goes to Northwestern and their coach Pat Fitzgerald.

Still 10-6 midway through 3rd quarter. Bucks squandered another red zone opportunity with a missed 42 yard FG attempt. State now 2-4 in the red zone.

Finally OSU scores a TD just using old fashion Woody Hayes off tackle football. Trey Sermon playing inspired football. 13-10.

State pulling away with 4 minutes left. Sermon 25 carries for 295 yards and 2 TD's. State 22-10 after missed 2 point try. Fields apparently has a wrist/hand injury.

Final 22-10 Ohio State. Sermon 29 carrys for 331 yards, a school record. The defense played a solid game. Credit Northwestern, their effort deserved a better result.

After giving up the 2 scores the defense played a good game. As players who did not play a lot before stepped up. The defensive line did not have the rotation to come in. So they had to stay in the game more than normal. When OSU decided to run and run then run some more they took over the game. You keep hearing that the Clemson loss without Lawrence shouldn't count for the BCS. OSU having multiple starters out for multiple games should mean more. But you can not upset the crybabies from down south.

You are correct. OSU faced some adversity and met the challenge. Given that Texas A&M did not look overly impressive in defeating Tennessee, the Buckeyes should make the playoffs if, and it is a big if, the Big 10 changes its Covid rules to allow some of the quarantined players back on the roster for Ohio State. Being down 20 some players entering the playoff could forcd OSU to drop out of the committe's top four. We will just have to wait until tomorrow and see what happens. State is a team with obvious flaws, but no more so than anybody outside of Alabama. The Bucks deserve a chance to compete.

sermon would have had 400+ yards if osu had started running the ball earlier in the game

Fields showed he is not NFL ready. His decision making was bad again, for the most part. Playcalling made this a game.

LCF,

You watch more football than anyone. Do you see any reason why OSU's passing game revolves around long developing pass routes where Fields seems not to be able to pull the trigger unless the receiver is absolutely open? Fields just does not seem to have the confidence to throw to a spot allowing the receiver to break on the ball?

I think he like Haskins has trouble reading defenses.

Seems like somebody is crying to me as usual and then some are having a logical conversation on the game.
