I heard someone the other day think that the defensive coordinator Matus may be the guy.

If he done it for the team, hats off to Ruby for stepping down and realizing the team needed a different direction. Minford needs to go out of house though because watching their defense was very painful as it simply wasn't good at all. Not sure I'd feel confident in the guy tasked to run that defense to step and run the team, I'm sorry but if you can't get a handle for what you were in control of should you really be the one to take over?? Sounds like a lateral move and they should really open it up to try and see what outsiders might be interested.

We definitely all seen the writing on the wall. It will be interesting who they bring in or do they stay in house?

I would be surprised if Matiz was interested in being the head coach.

I believe it will be an another tight race with west & burg. West will need kids to step up and play, losing a lot of quick athletes but control their own destiny with returning a lot of valuable pieces. Burg will be an animal, especially with the piece or pieces that’s transferring in.

Lots of rumors this time of year regarding football transfers that usually end up as nothing more than rumors. Hell, last spring/summer, half of Scioto County was supposedly transferring to Portsmouth to play basketball. I think one kid actually ended up doing so (Loper from Clay), and I don't recall his name even being mentioned in any of the rumors on here.*

Well I figured it would be bs with the two players I was told but I also would have never thought Perkins would have transferred

Valley finished the season with a lot of momentum and promise. Last I heard was they had big names numbers at power lifting. I heard some talk early in the season but that went away when the Indians started playing well.

#HotTake. Minford gets back on track with wins over NW, OH, and Lucasville.

Matiz. Don’t think he did/does have interest in being a HC or he would have done it by now. Will be interesting how much of any of the staff is retained.

Valley's competition the last of the season had more to do with their success rather than playing better. The only good team they played the last 5 games was West. Don't mean to bring people down but just stating facts. Maybe their play was better but their wins were against NW, OH, and Minford, 3 shoddy offenses. Against West, Grand View and West Liberty they avg. letting up 41pts.

That may not be wrong but as a Valley fan there was a ton of improvement. And it’s not wrong to think with as young as they were that they looked better against those teams rather 5 or 6 playoff teams. If I’m not wrong, I think Grandview was a playoff team too. I don’t think anyone would have given them a chance in any game outside of Oak Hill when you watched them early. I guess time will tell but as a follower and parent, it was a young team that showed big heart and improvement. In the playoffs they had West Liberty on their heels until the turnovers hit. That wouldn’t have happened earlier in the year.

Crabtree did a good job, but Valley is years away from competing against good teams. West returns most of their team outside of Bishop and Tipton. If West drops to D6 this year as has been speculated, they could make a nice playoff run.

Enrollment numbers are making this an interesting Spring.

Preliminary numbers as follows:
Oak Hill 152
Waverly 213
West 161
Wheelersburg 204
Minford 156
Valley 138
Northwest 155

2022-23 Division Breakdowns
DIV 269-202
DV 201-154
DVI 153-113

Of course the numbers can be appealed, and the divisional breakdowns can shift a few each way to even up the total number in each division, so this is all subject to change.

What are the odds Waverly and Wheelersburg go to DIV?
Could one or more of Oak Hill, Minford, or Northwest Drop to DVI?
How would Wheelersburg and Waverly feel about playing in a league of DVI teams?

In 2023, the largest DV football school had 203 boys (204 with CB).

Thanks. Can you share the link to the preliminary numbers? Couldn’t find them on the OHSAA website.
