$8 should be the max the OHSAA charges to attend a playoff game.

I think it should be more than 8 but not 16

Oh, so 3 out of 28 justifies it? See where those 3 are after week 2.

NO one lower than a 5 seed made the final 4 last year. Top 8 worked great until COVID came around and OHSAA got greedy.
If 3 out of 28 makes you unhappy then 1 out of 28 shouldn't be a big loss if they don't make it.
If we go with your logic then 4 or even better 2 teams from each region is the way to go.
The odds are you will have great games if you go with 2 and really good games if you go with 4.
I think there is something to be said for a school making the playoffs but if one only views that success in the playoffs is making the Final 4 or the Final game then cut the numbers down to 4 or 2.
If you go this route then schools will beef up their schedules meaning more competitive regular season games.
I like the 16 but I can see going with a lot fewer if all you want are close competitive games.

Being completely honest I think the better route would be into expansion of the regions and getting more teams in from that way. I see zero reason that we have teams making a 3 hour or more drive to play a opening round playoff game in that "region". Increase the overall regions and allow more teams in that way you're going to get better games and hopefully better travel to those games.

You can’t compare West Virginia it is a lot smaller state than Ohio . Charleston and Huntington are the largest towns but are in 50,000 range.

I agree. If they want to let more teams in. Cut the regions into smaller ones. Heck make it 6 regions instead of 4. At least it would alleviate some of the long drives in the opening rounds.

That’s funny. Except WV didn’t let anyone in playoffs with a 2-8 record.

Springfield as a 12 is a little deceptive. Only reason they ended up a 12 is because they lost their QB during game 2 of the season and had to reinvent their offense. Once he came back, they returned to being better than a 12. This is not an ordinary 12.

My idea is split the current regions in half and have 8 districts/regionals total for each division. In D2-D7, have 8 13-team district with the top 7 making the playoff with the district winner earning a bye. In D1, I would reduce it to the top 6 making it with the top 2 earning a bye in 8 10-team districts, but D1 could stick with their current 4 region format and do top 12 of 20 qualify with top 4 earning bye.

1st 3 weeks are hosted by the higher seeds (as opposed to 1st 2 weeks). This allows the #1 seed the opportunity to still host 2 games like with the current playoff format. Regional championship/state quarterfinals (week 4) is neutral site. Final 4 teams are paired with 1 v. 4 and 2 v. 3 to avoid the top 2 teams playing in State semis and played at neutral site. State championship is comducted as is.

Most states allow all teams in.
If you want them all in, play 8 regular season games. 10th week , those who get beat by 20-50 in first playoff game can pick up an extra game to make it a 10 game season. This whole ohio playoff system today, is a complete Joke.
I’m sure the powers that be will listen to your opinion and consider changes.

And by many’s opinion, because of that injury the rest of the team should have never had a chance to even be there. That’s what silly, teams are no longer penalized for an early injury or for playing a very tough schedule.

True, but this is a very rare case. Most of the first and second round games have been blood baths.

It’s just an additional week of wear and tear on these kids for the financial benefit of OHSAA!

That’s why they have 30 point running clock. Stop complaining about more football you old head. This isn’t about you it’s about the kids. Just being in the playoffs can kick start a program. You don’t have to go to the game if you think it will be lopsided. Also it makes it easier to schedule good games in the regular season. Taking losses won’t hurt you as much.

If you even played football, it must have been with one of the pathetic programs that rarely to never made the playoffs. And as for kickstarting your program, this will do nothing for that. Just putting your school in position to get thumped once again.

As for injury, anyone who has played football knows the toll it takes on the body, especially when playing deep into the playoffs. Each game and each week of practice is just additional risk for injury. And in this case for what? Participation trophies for crappy teams that have no business being in the playoffs? Sorry, but participation trophies are unnecessary.

Maybe you would take football injuries more seriously if you ever saw someone truly hurt to the point of impacting the rest of their lives. It’s a risk that is part of the game, but adding an unnecessary game to the schedule to make others feel good about themselves is definitely not worth the risk.

You have no idea what you are talking about. We are talking 1 game bro. It’s you old heads crying bout this every year it’s getting old. I’m sure if you asked the kids they’d rather play. Coaches don’t want a bye if we go to 12 teams that and Covid is why it went to 16. If you look plenty of non top 8 seeds won playoff games. Fort Frye was a terrible program they never had won a playoff game. They made it in 2012 got destroyed by Kirtland. In 2013 got destroyed by Valley. Those 2 games catapulted the entire program. More kids wanted to play and the community wanted to get involved. Since those 2 losses Fort Frye has made final 4 3 times and won 20 playoff games. Just let the kids play.

If a kid is so worried about getting hurt why are they even playing football? You could get hurt in any game. This is a weak argument. We are talking 1 extra game.

Could you imagine how boring the playoffs would be if the old timers got their way and we went back to top 2 get in with only 3 divisions? No thanks.
