September 15, 2023 Vinton County 35 - 13 Athens

Post by Dundas »

Big matchup in the TVC Ohio this Friday night as the bulldogs make the trip out newly paved route 50. Last year the Vikings struggled to score against the bulldogs but came away with a 21-7 victory. Both teams lit it up offensively in week 1 of TVC Ohio play. The Vikings defense held Meigs to minus 4 yards rushing and the Dogs enacted revenge over their county rivals, Alexander, piling up 55 points. I think it’s pretty clear that the TVC title will be claimed by Athens, NY or VC. The Vikings are giving up 8.5 ppg on defense and the bulldogs average almost 22 ppg on offense. Athens has faced a more difficult non conference schedule to this point and that could come in to play Friday night. HUGE TVC matchup at Valhalla.

I'll give the nod to the Vikings over the Bulldogs.

VC wins, but Athens will make them earn it like last year.

Not sure if I trust VC’s offense yet. They showed last week against a bad Meigs team they can throw it, run it and spread the ball to multiple playmakers. Let’s see if they can do that two weeks in a row.

Don’t see VC having much trouble with Athens. Good luck to both

The game last year could have easily been won by Athens
I feel Athens is more athletic
But I also think vc is playing better so give me the Vikings in a close one 20-13

Hope VC’s boys and staff are taking Athens more serious than the community and parents are in VC. This has a trap game written all over it. Isn’t going to be a push over like some people are predicting.

VC’s defense is well coached and will control Athens with a bend, but don’t break attitude. My question is, will VC continue to open up the pass game like they did last week? If so, that’ll be what changes it all. Finally making teams pay for selling out to stop the run is what can propel VC to a possible TVC Title.

Game was a lot closer than the final score indicates. VC turned it on in the 4th quarter and made Athens have to play from behind and forced them to pass more which ended in a defensive touchdown.

I think the slower tempo offensively for VC was nice to milk the clock and keep the defense off the field after struggling offensively all night with bad penalties and turnovers.

Wasn’t pretty, but the Vikings are 4-1 and heading into the easiest three week stretch of their season before the eventual showdown for the TVC Title with the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes.

Best of luck to the Bulldogs. I think the program is heading into the right direction.
