2023 Player Spotlight/interview with Theo Talbott from Newark Catholic

Post by LICKING COUNTY FAN »

Theodore Talbott

2025

Newark Catholic High School

LB/S/RB/WR

With a new coach who was a phenomenal player at Newark Catholic, what have been the biggest changes so far?

It’s a whole new mindset coming in, there are many new little critiques and things that Coach Hendershot is on us about to make us the best we can be.

What are not only your personal goals for the season but also the goals you have set forth for the team?

Personally, the goal is always to win the week at hand. But as a team, Newark Catholic over the years has set a very high standard and we expect no less than a final 4 run.

What game are you looking forward to the most, along with the reason why?

The game I’m looking forward to the most is Licking Heights, after beating us last year to name our regular season 9-1 it leaves a little bit of a bad feeling in your stomach so we’re looking to turn that around.

Of the two losses last year, which shocked you the most, along with the reason why?

I think the Warren JFK loss last year was the most shocking because we felt going into that game that we were the better team, and the fact that it’s a season-ender doesn’t help lol.

Who has been the best player you have gone up against, along with the team he played for?

Deuce Caldwell is probably the best player I’ve played against, he played QB for Heights the past 2 years but is playing football at ODU now.

Looking at only the road games you have played, which stadium had the best overall atmosphere?

I think my Freshman year against Warren JFK in the state semis was the best atmosphere. 1 because it was a great snow game and 2 because there wasn’t a seat in that stadium open.

What has been your most embarrassing moment as an athlete?

My most embarrassing moment as an athlete would probably be dropping a wide-open touchdown freshman year.

What has been your greatest accomplishment as an athlete?

My greatest accomplishment as an athlete would probably be runner-up in @ state in football freshman year.

The coach tells you to call the next play. What are you calling and why?

I would call an inside run because I know we’re taking it for 6.

Where should the state finals be held?

I love the atmosphere of Canton but @ the shoe would be awesome.

What has been the best advice you have received when it comes to playing sports?

Winning isn’t loyal to you and never will be, you have to earn it.

What was the last book you read?

The last book I read was “Can’t Hurt Me” by David Goggins

What is your favorite type of music?

I can listen to about any music.

Where is the best local spot to grab a bite?

Elliot’s Wood Fire Pizza
