Well reading up on this game has me feeling a bit uneasy about my West to take the SOC crown over burg this year. I don't know if Burg has the ability to pass the ball or not as it sounds like they ran all over Minford tonight. I still think Burg and West will be a good one but if I'm the West coach I'm feeling very good to slip by in this one. It'll be very interesting to see the stats these 2 teams put up as Waverly put up more points against West than West had given up all year going into this one.

They fought very hard, and following Waverly games, this isn't the first time that has happened. So thats a testament to the teams character.

We tend to get very conservative early on and that's still a gripe of mine. To be as balanced as we are offensively, I'd like to see ys get better separation. I can tell you the mood in the stands at 21-0 became way more relaxed. And you could see the guard being let down on the side line as well. That's a compliment to the Tigers for not laying down, and a learning moment for us. Giving up 42 is extremely disappointing and a good wake up call.

I got the vibe just like the game last year at Waverly. We were definitely the less talented team, but we hung right in there punch for punch until late in the 4th. Waverly did this tonight as well. Good luck to them the rest of the year
I can understand that but to do that twice in the same game, it’s hats off to Waverly for the fight they showed. If we can slip into the playoffs we will be battle tested for sure. This should be a huge wake up for west it’s not enough to be the man on paper you’ve got to fight for it from start to finish.
I think we needed that Unioto win to make the playoffs, provided we beat Valley, Minford and Oak Hill.
I really don’t think we slip in at 5-5.
Looking over the standings on Eitel and the teams around us, I "think" if we can finish 5-5 given the wins Valley and Minford have, we can get in, now we might be in that 12-16 range. That's with me looking at MT and JM schedule I think each team is good for 2 more wins each which will help. I do hope we can get in but right now I'm just focusing on Valley and hoping this team can continue its improvement.

Love the optimism, but West simply has better talent and more experience to bring to bear in the 70th meeting between the two schools. I think Waverly fans would be happy if their Tigers would just show improvement in execution and avoid further injury to body and psyche.

West 35 Waverly 7
Sounds like I had this one called. When you guys have more experience then you will win these games. Talent and coaching staff is there just dealing with some youth right now.

This was the first time the starters have played in the 4th since week one. They needed this type of game in a big way. Was it pretty? Offensively yes. We ran whatever play we wanted and could almost score when we wanted. I wish we would start getting more aggressive to separate scores. Defensively was ugly and the one flaw we all knew about. Atleast one of the kids shouldn't be back there at all. I've said that for 4 years. The others on alot of those plays in the endzone were in the right spots, but props to the tigers receivers on many for just making very good catches. In the 4th their line was getting a push. Once again getting the contributions from that tough schedule. Our depth is going to hurt but we will be fine. I think we beat Minford. Should beat Valley and Oak Hill. Fingers crossed every one stays healthy and learning to finish a game out like this is very important.

Thanks, looks like to me West was exposed both through the air and on the ground looking at the stats. Was pretty confident about my west division crown until this game. Only challenge left for them at this point is Burg, still no idea how you don’t schedule up the year or 2 you know you’ve got a really strong team coming up.

You have to give Waverly a lot of credit Friday. They played really well. I do think West will learn a lot from the game.

West hadn’t seen the RPO’s like Waverly ran. The other 2 spread teams they played (Fairland and Portsmouth) were content on the deep ball. Waverly hurt West underneath and had a good enough line to run the ball some.

I will say the fact that Waverly wasn’t called for one holding call the entire game was a joke.

Why? You see a bunch of holds?? Waverlys OL played probably their best game pass protection wise, west tried to pressure the middle instead of outside. The biggest joke for penalties not called was when west had 12 in the huddle broke the huddle and Sissel ran off the field no penalty. Came when west scored on their final TD drive around the 15 or so. Would 1st and 15 mattered who knows but that was a penalty that EVERYONE seen clear as day.

They also called Sissel short of a first down on the 4th down play around the 50, when he was clearly past it. It was right in front of me and couldn't have been more blatant. I watched holdings all night that were not called. If you want a moral victory you can have it. Valiant effort, but the better team won.

Yes a couple form tackles

And I agree that should have been 12 men in the huddle

Came when west scored on their final TD drive around the 15 or so. Would 1st and 15 mattered who knows but that was a penalty that EVERYONE seen clear as day.
They also called Sissel short of a first down on the 4th down play around the 50, when he was clearly past it. It was right in front of me and couldn't have been more blatant. I watched holdings all night that were not called. If you want a moral victory you can have it. Valiant effort, but the better team won.
Oh I said from the beginning better team won, could care less about moral victories I only look for improvement. I know what play you’re talking about it was close I think one official had it spotted right on other official had him short and they went with his spot. In HS there’s always holding, just like on a jet sweep the left tackle tackled our D-end didn’t get called. I felt overall they done a nice job on the game I didn’t feel either team overly benefitted from calls. The 12 man was like they didn’t know that existed.

I like reading the review of this game. I have done some checking with some officials I know.
Breaking the huddle with 12 players is not a penalty for states using the National Federation of
High School Sports (all except Texas).

A player has to begin to leave the field within 3 seconds of the sub coming in. If they do not get off
The field at the snap it is a 5 yard penalty, and if they are still on the field at the end of the play
It is a 15 yard penalty.

I did not realize that was the rule for offense........ Is it the same for defense?

That’s interesting now the 3 second thing you’re referring that’s here in ohio? If so then it was a penalty all 12 were huddled up for much longer than 3 seconds and it wasn’t until they went to the line the other RB ran off.

Yes it applies to both the offense and defense both. Once a 12 th person enters the huddle, by rule 1 player must begin to leave the huddle within 3 seconds.

I am surprised that high school does not have the rule about breaking the huddle with 12.

The 3 second rule is supposed to be all states that follow high school rules, which I believe is all but Texas. Texas uses NCAA rules.
