Shenandoah reason for dodging Fort Frye was size yet they’ve been in same Div every year but 2.

Fort Frye was just two kids from moving up to D5
134 enrollment, 18 CB = 152

The cutoff at the bottom of D5 was 154.

Haven't done a deep dive yet into all of the numbers, but that stood out pretty quickly.

Region would of been harder in D5 but D5 is weaker overall than D6. Marion Local and Kirtland in D6 is rough.

Tusky Valley to Coal Grove would be a heckuva playoff road trip on a Saturday night.

Not to mention that Versailles, the D5 champ, also dropped to D6.

Barnesville moving up to D5 means Cadets won’t beat them for 7th straight year.

NY has played 11 of these schools in the past.

Trimble - Yearly rivalry game, but never met in the playoffs before.

Bellaire - Played in the playoffs one time in a Regional Championship.

Belpre - Formal rival. Have not played since Belpre moved down to the TVC Hocking.

Berne Union - Played in regular season before.

Crooksville - NY has played the Ceramics more times than any other school NY has never been in a conference with before. Have met in the playoffs before.

Dawson-Bryant - NY and Coal Grove have played in the regular season and the playoffs. In fact, 2 of NY’s 3 Regional Championships were won vs. the Hornets in the Regional Championship.

East Knox - Played in the playoffs one year.

Fort Frye - Played in both the regular season and playoffs before.

Martins Ferry - Played in regular season one time.

Oak Hill - Played in regular season before.

West Jefferson - Played in the playoffs in state semifinals one year.

Thimble dodged Fort Frye in the regular season. Can't dodge them in the playoffs though, if they make it in. Might even get them in the first round. OUCH!

Cadets have had 2 Qbs the last 7 years. They’ll have to replace him. They also lost an All State tackle and a 3 Year tackle. Also lost Rb CrazyLegs Long who was a 1000 yard rusher. They do have a huge Sr class and huge offensive line. I expect a huge year from Downtown Owen Brown. Also Wr Braxton Brown is nice. Defense should be loaded. Cadets first 3 games are rough @ John Glenn , @ Bellaire and Zanesville.

Someone on here last year said Thimble graduated some "legends." So, if they had "legends" on the team last year and Fort Frye still beat the brakes off of them I like the chances that they'll do it again this year if they do meet up in the playoffs. :o

Playing bigger schools in Reg season helps come playoff time.

Maybe, but it hurts in the chest pounding department if those "bigger schools" beat you, and we all know that's important with some of these teams.

West Jeff lost 25 Srs almost every starter. They are a few years away.

West Jefferson should have about 50 players out in grades 10-12, about 15 per class. WJ has only 6 losing seasons over the last 64 years and made the playoffs 24 times in the 49 years….that stat use to mean something before the OHSAA let most everyone into the playoffs two years no ago. Come the playoffs, WJ should be a tough out in Region 23.

Let’s face it, Region 23 doesn’t have a team heading into the 2022 season that scares anyone. The Region 23 Champ will be a 3 td underdog to one of the titans in Div VI - Marion Local or Kirtland, in the State Semi’s.

NY could be a sleeper team to make the regional final. Would have to avoid Fort Frye to do so. It is along ways out but I feel good about NY early on. Think Fort Frye wins the region as of now

Bellaire is a year late in joining the D6 R23 party. Last year's team could have really done some damage in this region. Unfortunately they had D6 enrollment numbers last year, but we're frozen in D5 because of the 3-year cycle. They are well stocked at the skill positions, and with a new offensive minded coaching staff, will score points. If defense and o-line comes around, they could still be a factor.
