Week 8: Logan Vs Columbus East

Post by loganlocos »

Logan (0-7) will host Columbus East (1-3) Friday night at Logan Chieftain Stadium. The Tigers are a Division IV team from the Columbus City League.

Logan had previously been scheduled to play At Meigs, but the Marauders cancelled the game a few weeks ago.

Logan is off to its worst start in school history and suffered their worst ever setback last week by margin (62 points), loss via shutout, and tied the record for points allowed (Columbus West beat Logan 62-7 back in 1930).

Columbus East got a late start to the season as did the entire Columbus City League. The Tigers lost to Beechcroft and Independence before beating Linden McKinley. East lost at Warren last week in their D4 playoff matchup.

It will be the 4th ever meeting between the two schools, but first since 1925. The Tigers beat Logan in 1921 and 1923.

In the last meeting in 1925, Logan upset East 9-0 while celebrating the official dedication of the Hilltop football field we remember as Bill Sauer Field.

No doubt about that. I watched the Warren/East game. They can get behind you on defense and make you pay.

Logan should win this by 3+ TD’s, easily. East is just not very sound, and I can’t think of when they ever have been.

East made their only playoff appearance in 1999 - they finished 8-3 with a first round loss to Dover (14-12) in the Division II playoffs.

They were 6-4 last year, which was their first winning season since 1999. So it's been a couple of bleak decades for the East siders.

But lets face reality - Logan is 0-7 for the first time in school history and continuing the worst decade in school history so we're in no position to take any team for granted. Hopefully Logan can get healthy and have a good week of practice.

All fair points. I just think, even if Logan may be fundamentally poor this year (didn’t get to see them play), they’ll have big advantages in line play. And I don’t think East is going to have long possessions that keep Logan’s offense off the field. This might not be an attractive game to watch, but I don’t see the Chieftains losing this.

In the right system, East has the athletes to compete with anyone at the skill spots. #2 and #3 are faster than anyone Warren has seen or probably will see. Their line on both sides is good size, but gets no push. Our RB averaged 10 YPC. If Logan can sustain drives and force East to execute, they’ll win this game.

Probably the first time ever a Columbus city league team has traveled to SEO in back to back weeks only to lose both. Logan wins !!

I tell you one thing.....as I stand here on the side of the field and look at #2 on Columbus East (Listed at 5’9” 175lbs), that young man is maybe 5’2” and 115lbs!

He is probably their best player.

Looks can be deceiving. Not saying this young man is D1 material, but I got to see Archie Griffin play for Eastmore back in 1970. The future two time Heisman winner looked like would hit the scales at 140 pounds.

East might be the worst high school football team I’ve ever seen. I’m not even exaggerating.
