4-4 Logan @ 5-3 Gallia Academy

Post by jottings »

Thoughts.

I picked Gallipolis first in Craig Dunn's pre-season poll and Logan second in the 2013 race. However, that was before a ton of injuries hit the Blue Devils. If we don't have everybody back this week, Chiefs may go to 3-0 in league play and clinch at least a share of the 2013 title.

It will be the 80th meeting between the two charter member schools. Logan leads the series with 40 wins, 38 losses and one tie.

Looks like Logan is certainly in the driver's seat as far the as the SEOAL championship is concerned. Two challenges left for them with GAHS and Warren though.

Would be very interesting if Gallia Academy beats Logan and Warren beats Portsmouth this week. We could see two Week 10 matchups (Logan vs. Warren & GAHS vs. Jackson) where the winner would take a share of the SEOAL championship.

It's always tough to win at Gallia Academy, but especially on their Senior Night. I know GAHS has some key injuries, but I would expect them to play some inspired football, especially after last week's surprising loss. Because of that, I think this should be a heck of a game.

Logan will play hard like they have the past few weeks. They have been very difficult to play against. I see another game like Jackson-Logan...a final possession game decided in the final seconds.

I have said for most of the season that Logan was the team to beat. I expect them to win out for an outright title. Gallia now has the injuries where Logan had them early ( 15 players) and lost a game ( Teays Valley) that they should have won and easily I might add. I also thought they would have played a ranked Loudonville team much closer as well. Gallia also has no D and that will be the story line for this game. Logan should finish the season strong. While Zanesville was a loss, it gave the Chiefs an important competition game that sets them up for the final 2 games of much easier competition. I don't expect Gallia to beat Jackson either. Logan is recovering well under the new coach working against a difficult schedule, but fairing well as I expected they would in SEOAL play where they remain competitive with discipline and good coaching. Had they not had lots of injuries, Logan would have finished 7-3 in the first season under the new coach. As it is, he will win a league title his first year. Not bad !

I will take Gallia but I think it will be close. SEOAL is pretty even

Another big game for the Chiefs. Have not been enough of these recently, it's a lot more fun when every league game really matters.

The Chieftain's motto this season has been "Restore Order." Consider order restored when the Chiefs are back on top of the SEOAL. Beating a good Gallipolis team is the next step.

Unfortunately, Wade Jarrell played his worst game of the season for the Blue Devils last week, and I expect a better effort from him this week on Senior night. Logan will have to limit the big plays from the Jarrells and Logan Allison. Logan has been shredded by good QBs this year, namely Grant Russell of Newark and Thoams Wibbeler of Zanesville. I'm sure Jarrell is licking his lips watching film.

Logan's strength needs to be up front on both sides of the football. The Chiefs need to dominate behind seniors Reggie Wesselhoeft, Brock Emerson, Caleb Myers, Jesse Needs, Charles Paulsen, and Nick Schneider. They have done good work all season. Friday they will need to do GREAT work. Open holes for Kost, Schmeltzer, McBride, and McKinnis. Coach Burke's offense has really made strides and the play calling gets better each week. More of the same and Logan should put up points.

Special teams WILL be a factor. Logan has taken 3 kickoffs back this season and have been solid on kick blocks. Gallipolis has been good on returns as well. Logan HAS struggled on punt snaps, Dean Jordan really saved the day last week with an athletic play to get a punt off right before halftime.

Finally, the field will be a factor as well. Gallipolis is one of the few places Logan plays that still has real grass. The field, as most grass fields at this point of the season, isn't in great shape. How will Logan respond? I imagine Gallipolis, with their pass happy offense, would rather play on turf, but Logan's kids don't have much experience in the mud.

Keys To Winning:

For Gallipolis, the Jarrells, both QB Wade and Linebacker/Receiver Wes need to be playmakers. Wade is the best player in the league. If he plays at a high level, GAHS will score points.

For Logan, it's all about the offensive and defensive lines. They can be dominant. But they also have struggled at times, like the first half against Jackson. Logan's backfield will have a good night if the 5 O-linemen play to their ability and on defense the D-Line can make things difficult for Jarrell.

I think Logan should win but Gallia has an equalizer in their home field advantage. No it's not the fans, student section, or senior night. It's GRASS. Wet sticky yucky grass. Not sure what type of shape it's in but with rain this past week and snow due on Wed, Thur, that field could be nasty. It could take away speed and play havoc with a Logan team that has played all but 1 game (Aug 30) on turf. I have seen many games on that field after a wet week and it ain't pretty.

Actually a wet field would be a plus for Logan. They are just going to line up with their big OL and ram the ball down Gallia's throat. The Devils rely on a pass game and in wet conditions, isn't very viable. Keep in mind that Gallia's problem has been that they don't have a D. Logan has given up the fewest points in league play.

Funny things happen when you try to throw and catch a wet ball. In Ohio, if you run the ball in late season wet & cold weather you have a much better chance to win. Football 101.

Not true, Logan/Gallia/Warren has only played 2 league games while Portsmouth and Jackson have played 3 league games. Jackson average points given up per game is 22 and Logan's points given up per game is 24. Get your facts right.

However, I give the edge to Logan in this one. Although Senior Night at Gallia Academy will be a tough place to play, and I am secretly hoping for a GA shocker to make it an interesting week 10 in Jackson.

When was reading comprehension a strong suit for you folks ? I said Logan has given up the" fewest points", NOT average points.

http://seoal.weebly.com/standings.html

Logan has given up 48. Jackson has given up 76, Gallia 80, Warren 56, and Portsmouth 135. That column doesn't say AVERAGE POINTS.

But you folks are on a roll. Keep up the entertainment.

Actually, you provide the entertainment.

Clearly a team that has played 3 league games could be more likely to give up more points than a team only having played 2 league games...thus the rectification to use a average so someone like you could actually compare apples to apples. If you don't understand, which I imagine you don't I am certain other more intelligent readers do.

Surely, someone up North can explain 3rd grade math to the great, omnipotent, Paladin.

noreply66, I was simply trying to get him to understand that the teams have not played the same amount of games, and adjust for it. But of course that was a big problem for him, and the ridicule followed from the oh so great Oz of Paladin.

2 League Games does not = 3 League games, but he just wasn't comprehending. Oh well.

Again, there is no argument here. What I said is factually correct and proved by the chart. This game is a problem because Gallia has no D. Its also important to know Logan is in the driver's seat with an UNBEATEN record in SEOAL play. Everyone has at least one loss with 2 weeks remaining, except Logan . Gallia has given up 80 points in two games against teams in the bottom half of the league. Not good. Logan has given up only 48 , including the second place team ( Jackson who I think will finish 2nd). As already discussed, the game will see wet & cold, including probably snow and that should not impact Logan's plans. But Gallia is in a whole lot of trouble with a pass game. If we are talking AVERAGE POINTS, Gallia will have to score more than the 40 pts. average they are giving up on a wet, cold night and a terrible field for a pass game. Logan simply lines up and plays its good D and runs the ball and eats the clock.

Result ? At least a tie for the title with the outright title clinched the following week with Warren.

Go Chiefs !!

P.S. -- did you love my early predictions that Logan would WIN the SEOAL ?

So much for the "football experts" of SEO ! 8)

How about copying and pasting that July or August pre-season prediction Paladin? I am not saying I don't believe you, just like to see the date when you as the all knowing, all wise Oz made the prediction that is all. You may very well could have, but I doubt it was made as early as you are leading everyone to believe.

Having seen both squads play, Logan has an advantage here with their O-Line play and running attack. However most of their success to date with that has been on the edges with jet sweeps and the like. Gallia pretty good on the edges especially if Warnimount is healthy. Look for Logan to have the most success between the tackles in this one.

If one person drives from Logan to Gallipolis three times Paladin, and someone else drives from Logan to Gallipolis two times which one drives the most miles O' great Oz?

Math, it is what most people use when making statistical analysis Paladin. Try is someday you ole football expert you lol.

In that case the AVERAGE would be the same. But, of course, you didn't read and comprehend what I said. I made NO DISTINCTION, just "fewest points", not average points. The King's English apparently doesn't exist in the sticks !

I'm looking for a Logan win, 28-14 because of the bad weather & field. But it might be worse.

The fewest points with a team that played 3 league games.

The fewest points with a team that played 2 league games.

Lets compare the totals with no means for adjustment lol

I understand not only English oh wise one, but math as well  but hey you get your abacus or slide rule out and do whatever you want up there in the big metropolis of Youngstown lol.
