Point Pleasant was at Sanders Field, not Saunders.

Also, we (media) always referenced the rv place as Raider Field there in Cheshire. May not be entirely accurate, but that was the name given to us by coaches at the time.

Like this project idea. Always good to learn about history.

I'll check on middleport and get back to ya.

In the early 1950s, Tanks Stadium was called Beechwood Stadium. I think Middleport's field was called Jackets stadium. Pomeroy played its home games at Middleport until 1950.

My sources in middleport say it was yellow jacket stadium. Both graduated from middleport, before consolidation into meigs. It's also family that has lived there forever, so I trust the sources.

Locos ... East Green?

I think we use to call that Putnam Fields or Stadium.

I'll have to ask Gibby - he actually played there ... :)

I think it was Rufus Putnam Stadium before the Red and Black Bulldogs moved to The Plains. GAHS lost many games there, especially when Harry Lackey was the head coach.

Thanks everyone. Great start. I'll make some updates and hopefully we can fill it all in.

Have some exciting stuff coming on my SEOAL website as well.

Dad told me the old Arhens field was over by the dorms on the East Green at OU.. I figure Mike Wren would know too but I don't have his number anymore.

Marietta
Don Drumm was a ball field since 1891. In 1934, the stadium was built with funding by the WPA, the city, the College and Marietta City schools. It was named 'Municipal Stadium ', renamed to Don Drumm in 1966. Owned by the College, Board of Education and Port Authority at one time or another, from 2004 it has been owned & maintained by Marietta College.

Ive played at Don Drumm, its a nice sized stadium (for d3 college). Definitely one of the best in the Oac.

New Boston's field is called New Boston Municipal Stadium (source:Portsmouth Daily Times).

Does anyone ever play at the old Portsmouth stadium? Kind of a shame if no one uses it, considering the history behind it.

Notre Dame plays their home games there as well as the Kentucky Warriors who are a semi-pro team based out of Northern KY.

Spartan in Portsmouth was Municpal before it was changed to honor the
Portsmouth Spartans that was an NFL in the early 30's. I was at the ceremony and
There were some of the Spatans there, do not remember the year though. Sure
Someone does

Hopefully one of these days GAHS will relocate its facilities at the new school in Centenary. We need lights, seats and dressing room facilities.

You know, I often wondered why the powers that be didn't try contacting the NFL is regards to renovating ole Spartan Stadium. Considering the historical significance of the stadium, not to mention the HOF being in Ohio, it seems logical that the league would have had an interest in stepping and involving itself in some capacity. Just something to ponder.
