Meigs County People - Pomeroy, Middleport, Rutland

Post by loganlocos »

As you can see from my SEOAL stadiums thread, I've been on a kick putting together SEOAL football history.

I am working on tracking down every game - including non-league - played by members of the SEOAL.

Pomeroy joined the SEOAL in 1926. I believe their first season of football was 1925.

Middleport joined in 1929 and were a powerhouse for the first 12 years.

Of course those two, along with Rutland, consolidated after the 66-67 school year to form Meigs HS.

So far I have put together complete schedules - Dates, locations, and scores for 1925-1928 with only a few exceptions. A lot of my problems are coming from PHS and MHS. I know we have some old timers and historians on here and thought I'd reach out for help.

Thanks.

This is a great idea. I have some old film of my dad playing at rutland. Always interesting to look back at how the game used to be played.

Meigs county football aint been the same since Junior Hawthorne quit playing. He was the best player ever to come out of this county. Played at UK before going to NFL.
