WK5 NNelsonville-York @ Logan

Post by Orange and Brown »

The Buckeyes will make the very short trip up route 33 to take on long standing rival Logan. The Bucks are coming off a win over River Valley and the Chiefs are coming off a big loss to LOUDENVILLE.

Who's gonna win?
Thoughts?

Let's keep it classy this week guys lol......

I'm not ready to make a prediction just yet, but I feel like this will be a low scoring game because both teams will try to run the ball and eat the clock.

Nelsonville-York at Logan will be the Power 105 Game of the week!

Should be an interesting week on The Sports Fan on 970WATH. Wednesday night Jay Kline will be stopping by to talk Buckeye football (and maybe some NY hoops as well). Thursday Kevin Dunigan (Logan) will be in studio to discuss the Chiefs and all the football action taking place over the weekend. Friday night is our High School Football pregame show with host Mark Hunter - and the broadcast guys will be calling in from Chieftain Stadium as well.

The Sports Fan airs live from 6:06 - 7:00 Monday through Friday on 970WATH and 97.1FM or 970wath.com.

Maybe I can get Logan Locos to call in Thursday too.

93dog -

Count me in.

Huge game for the purple and white. This team turned it's season around and found it's identity last year at Dave Boston Field. That team finally found the confidence and consistency you need to win games.

Think this team is ahead of last year - but I know they have to be frustrated at 1-3.

I know the Buckeyes are an improved group as well. We know what they're gonna do. Everyone does. And not many can stop them.

Not sure I can handle TWO chieftain voices - but I'll try ... maybe I'll just pick up a bottle of Pepto-Bismol on the way to the station Thursday.

I'd say it will be close for 3 quarters and Logan pulls away at the end
Logan 28
Nelsonville York 14

This should be a tight game.

I'll be rooting for fellow TVC member Nelsonville but I think Logan wins.

Good luck and good health to both teams.

This will be the 31st all-time meeting between the Buckeyes and Chieftains since NY consolidation in 1967. However, this rivalry goes back to the beginning of organized high school sports at both Logan and Nelsonville. The Chieftains were the number one rival for the Greyhounds. At one time, this was the final game of the season played on Thanksgiving. At one time, these teams hated each other so much that both refused to play on the other school's field so games were held at a neutral site in Haydenville (which is now part of Logan).

Logan has absolutely dominated the series, but NY held its own during around the years of its state title run and in the 1990s and since the series resumed in 2011. I always forget to save the stats from the old Nelsonville Greyhounds, so maybe LoganLocos can post those again here.

Logan leads all-time series 22 wins, 8 losses
1967 Logan (H) 22-0
1968 Logan (A) 32-8
1969 Logan (H) 20-14
1970 Logan (A) 64-0
1971 Logan (H) 64-20
1975 Logan (H) 34-14
1976 Logan (A) 21-0
1977 Logan (H) 54-0
1979 Logan (H) 10-9
1980 Logan (A) 7-6
1981 Nelsonville-York (H) 40-0
1982 Nelsonville-York (A) 35-13
1986 Logan (H) 30-12
1987 Logan (A) 27-6
1988 Logan (H) 45-0
1989 Logan (A) 6-0 OT
1992 Nelsonville-York (H) 33-7
1993 Logan (A) 35-18
1994 Nelsonville-York (H) 20-19
1995 Logan (A) 21-18
1996 Nelsonville-York (H) 28-21
1997 Nelsonville-York (A) 27-17
1998 Logan (H) 34-29
1999 Logan (A) 42-15
2000 Logan (H) 28-3
2001 Logan (A) 50-6
2002 Logan (H) 46-19
2011 Nelsonville-York (H) 42-6
2012 Nelsonville-York (A) 50-0
2013 Logan (H) 14-12

There were 55 games between Logan and old Nelsonville from 1913 to 1966. Logan whopped up on the Greyhounds with a record of 45- 6- 4 and most of the games had lop-sided scores.

Things haven't got much better with Logan holding a 22-8 edge on N-Y.
