pbuck....Very true .Wellston was up 41 -13 at the half .The Rockets come out and played lazy in the second half and Belpre scored three times .
Belpre has some good athletes, they never quit either. It shows why they wanted to drop down to the Hocking. They only had 26 players dressed.Alot of people say numbers dont matter ,but I for one think they do.

Here are some more random thoughts/stats on this rivalry......

Belpre is tied with Trimble for second place all-time on the number of games played vs. Nelsonville-York, as this is the 40th game NY has played each school. (Vinton County is number one at 43 games played, as they have played every year since NY consolidation except the year of the VC Teachers Strike that cancelled that game in 1973. This means that Belpre will fall to third place on the all-time games played against NY next year when the Golden Eagles leave the NY schedule.

Belpre, Vinton County, and Alexander are the only three rivalry games that originated after a consolidated Nelsonville-York came into existence that are still being played today. This means starting next year, Vinton County and Alexander will be the only rivalries that originated after the consolidation that are still being played today. (Trimble had its rivalry origins with the York Bruins. Athens, Meigs, and Wellston originated their rivalries with the Nelsonville Greyhounds.)

And the most impressive stat of them all...........NY or Belpre has either won or had a share of a TVC championship in football every year since the first year of league play in 1970 except the following years......

1980 - Trimble
1985 - Warren
1986 - Meigs
1989 - Trimble
1991 - Vinton County
1995 - Vinton County
1996 - Meigs, Vinton County
1998 - Meigs
1999 - Vinton County
2001 - Wellston
2002 - Wellston

This means only 11 out of 39 years of TVC Football Championships has neither Nelsonville-York or Belpre had at least a share of the league championship in football. One of these two schools has a championship in 28 of the 39 years of the league! There has been A LOT on the line in the past four decades in the NY vs. Belpre game!!!! The class of the TVC, the two most winning programs in league history, face off one final time!

If NY looks ahead or takes Belpre lightly, this could be a dogfight. The Golden Eagles can ring up some points. Coach Boston will have his boys ready, so I'm going with NY.

Buckeyes 42

Golden Eagles 30

Yes Belpre has shown that it can score points, scoring 25,28 and 33 in the last 3 games. The problem is defensively where they have given up 52,35 an 54.The defensive line has to get a lot better and stop some of these runners before they get into the secondary. Wellston had over 400 yards rushing and the majority of them was on QB draws and running backs up the middle or off tackle. We sure can't allow Mr Arnold to run through the line like that if we are going to have any chance of pulling off an upset of a fine NY team.Hoping the Eagles can get it together on the defensive side of the ball and come out with the upset. Hoping not predicting.

The style the Bucks like to play will prevent them from putting up a lot of points and the fact that Belpre will play harder against us this week than any other opponent on their schedule. Historically speaking they always give us fits at Boston field and wouldn't expect an easy game this time around.

I think this game will be decided by turnovers. Ny hits hard and hits often. They will force Belpre to cough it up 4 or 5 times. Belpre will hang around for a while but they will get gassed and NY will pull away!

NY will win this ball game but it will not be a blow out that a lot of people say it will be. NY will hold Belpre to 2 touchdowns and NY will score 4 or 5. Belpre is improving and should they can play football and they are still a good hard hitting team but NY has been improving as well and gets better each week.

I'm surprized there aren't more posts on this thread, considering the historical significance of the final meeting between NY and Belpre. Hopefully our good friends who do the write ups for the area newspapers will discuss the historical significance of this game in their articles this week, since many posters who do not click on this thread may have no idea how significant this meeting has been in the last four decades.
