Paint Valley thrashed D6er New Miami, 34-0, last night. New Miami qualified for the region 24 playoffs last year, grabbing the #7 seed (they were 7-3), and got thrashed by perrieneal powerhouse Mechanicsburg, 42-0, I believe.
I don't know how good New Miami is supposed to be this year and I don't know how many starters PV lost from last year's team.
Coal Grove should be able to come out on top in this one - they should have last year, I thought.

good luck hornets. dont know anything about pv hope they are more of a run team. i think we can stop the run better than pass. there were alot of recievers left open last fri there qb was good but over threw alot. we needed that to get our dfence ready for pass and for week 1 we got the win and i think they will be better after seeing the film and having a game like that. dfence got better as the game went miegs was a good offence dont know if we will see that much speed the rest of the season.

BTW, I think that New Miami team Paint Valley beat was only returning like 3 starters on offense and their TE from last year is now their QB.
Don't let that score fool you into going with Paint Valley in this one. I'm not saying that means you should pick CG, but it should definitely be a close one!

What hurt us last year against them was their passing game and our ability to get more penalties than our opponents when were at home. I believe it will be a good close game and if we can open up the offense like we did this week then we should come out on top.

Paint Valley takes this one. Essentially shut down Coal Grove's power running game last year and provided a balanced offensive attack. Lost a few skilled positions but have reloaded so to speak. Paint Valley is one of the toughest places to play in the SVC, add in the playoff atmosphere should be a great game.

This will be the 3rd meeting between these two schools. Coal Grove won the first meeting, 35-15, in the 1st round of the 1989 playoffs. Paint Valley won last year's meeting, 20-13.

The Grove has diversified on offense; their QB is a double-threat and they have more skill position talent/depth than they've had for quite a while. This is not last year's Coal Grove team.
Paint Valley will score some points, but Coal Grove will score more.

Coal Grove 34

Paint Valley 22

Ok. . . Paint Valley lost 11 seniors this past year. AUSA are you trying to hold out us?

2008 Roster: http://gsn.k12.oh.us/PaintValley/main.htm

I think the Bearcats will miss at least a few of these guys just a little bit:

Mike Hamilton 5'11'' 175 DB

Kaleb Reed (Captain) 5'11 190 TE/DB

Matt Workman 6'2'' (Captain) 180 QB/DB

Jake Benner 6'0'' 160 DB

Colton Morris (Captain) 5'10'' 175 TB/SS

Brandon Darbyshire 5'11'' 185 TE/DB

Jake Smith 6'0'' 190 TE/LB

Gage McFadden (Captain) 5'11'' 215 FB/LB

Ryan Broughton 6'1'' 220 T/T

Dakota Wagoner 5'10'' 190 C/T

Dustin May 6'3'' 190 DE

Also, the Bearcats only beat two teams with a winning record last year by a combined 16 points (Coal Grove by 7 and Adena by 9). I don't think they'll be winning this one by more than 9 if they win at all.

Yeah, this New Miami team Paint Valley squared off against in week #1 really is "new" - entirely new coaching staff, only three returning starters, and "over a third" of their roster is made up of freshmen. Here's the article previewing New Miami:

I think the Grove wins by 2 TD's, only thing to slow them down will be their own miscues. They have an abundance of skill players, can run (around and over you) and pass. The line will continue to improve. The interior defense will need to step up this game and if they do victory should come the way of the Hornets.

The fact that New Miami had a lineman/LB that weighed 145 lbs probably didn't help much, either. Of course young, small, and inexperienced D6ers against a larger, potentially playoff-caliber Paint Valley squad won't compete.
Yeah those guys are big, but how's their endurance?
