Yea Right! Happens every year.

It is a shame that some do not get recognized when they should.

I just don't see how people can sleep at night when some kids work hard and put up the stats that deserve all district and coaches don't put them on there because their buddys say other wise!!!!!Do the coaches vote on them or do the coaches just pick certain players to be all district?

The coaches vote for All-Conference teams. Since this is the AP All-District team, the local press votes with input from coaches.

I don't know about the guys voting these days, but in the past, there were sportswriters who put up ONLY those kids recommended by their coaches as worthy.

Why is it that INVARIABLY every time one of these lists come out someone has to get on here and try to take something away from the kids that made it? Obviously, not everyone can make every list and to think that there's some huge conspiracy to blackball certain kids and promote others seems a little paranoid to me.

Just out of curiosity, but how does explaining the way the system works...

take something away from the kids that made it?

I don't believe that coaches would put up kids who didn't "deserve" recognition for such things, however, it makes an interesting exercise to wonder how these things would be different if -- in a perfect world that can never exist -- these teams could be selected by outsiders without recommendation from biased parties.

That's why a lot of newspapers pick their own all-area teams (in addition to just wanting to stir the pot and give the readers something else to complain about).

There's no perfect way to decide this since most sportswriters only see a small sample of the players nominated. Plus, if I remember correctly, not every newspaper has a vote. (One of you current sportswriter types correct me if that has changed)
