Not excited to see Berne Union and River Valley on the schedule, but maybe no better option existed for those weeks.

my guess is that the second vinton county game is the jv game. You are not going to play the same team 3 days apart unless its a varsity/jv type of thing.

Why are we continuing to play BU, and why would we ever pick RV back up? We are already stuck playing Trimble, so why play other bad teams? I really thought we had turned the corner with scheduling, but looks like we are back tracking again.

I also wonder why the league schedule changed, except for the Athens game. Thank god that game is still the final game of the season! But I liked playing Alexander in Week 9 so we had the two county rivals as the last two games of the season. As long as NY-Athens remains Week 10, I guess it isn't too bad. Maybe the change makes NY-Alex a homecoming game or something like that.

2012 Athens schedule:

vs ... Gallia Academy
at ... Watkins Memorial
vs ... Warren
at ... Jackson
vs ... Waverly
vs ... Wellston
at ... Alexander
vs ... Vinton County
at ... Meigs
at ... Nelsonville-York

(That's a pretty stout schedule starting with GALLIA, WATKINS, WARREN & JACKSON.)

This schedule is a reflection of the downfall of football at Nelsonville-York ever since the PE teacher left. Back then, we had a program to be proud of. Now we play this joke of a schedule and we cant win in the playoffs because we arent battle tested. I know we pretty much have to play trimble but come on.....

River Valley....we won more games last year than they have in the last decade.

Berne Union only wins when they play weaksister competition. No second level points there.

Newark Catholic......while this a slight upgrade this aint exactly JD Grahams Green Wave.

Logan football is in the toilet now and I dont see any quick recovery.

Why are we scheduling these donkeys? the PE teacher always played a tough schedule. He probably laughs every year when the new schedule comes out. I saw where that bunch at Hannan was calling us out a few years ago. i am surprised we aren't playing them.

We need to play Lancaster, Ironton, Jackson, Amand Clearcreek, and Trimble. Let me be the first to crack open a beer in celebration of another 9-2 season.

Look at the bright side ... You could be from Vinton County and have 2-8 seasons instead.

When NY dominated in the 90's, NY also had a strong non-league schedule. In '94, when NY went 11-1 and was Region 15 Runner Up in D IV, the Buckeyes defeated the SEOAL Champion Logan Chieftans, the 2nd place in the SEOAL Jackson Ironmen, and Portsmouth West in non-league games. That was a strong non-league schedule, which helped the Buckeyes defeat the ECOL Champion Coshocton Redskins in the Division Semifinals.

Newark Catholic isn't what they were with JD but this coming season they will be a force in D-6.

I guess I can see playing RV, they will be in the TVC soon, but we have to quit scheduling Burnt Onion.

RV will be in one of the two Hocking Divisions when they split up in 2014, so really there is no need to schedule RV. They would be a great team to play if and when they turn their program around though.

We should be looking to the MVL, MSL and SEOAL for our non-league games. I know schools have to have the same open weeks for schedules to play out, but I would think we could find all of our non-league opponents from those three leagues in most years.

And Berne Union doeosn't count as an MSL team even though they are in the MSL. They are a bottom feeder most years. Bring on Circleville, Amanda Clearcreek, Fairfield Union, etc. etc. These are the games we need to play and win if we want to advance in the playoffs.

Which helps you more NYBuck96? Getting beat by 40 by a DIV Amanda Clearcreek and getting all bruised up for the next few weeks or beating a DIV R.V. and being healthy the next few weeks of the season? That is the age old question. I'm not saying I would choose the R.V. option but that what it comes down to? A win vs. R.V. could be the difference in a home or away playoff game as opposed to losing to ACC and having to go on the road. That is what is tough. I would assume you would like to have a balance of competition in those 5 non-league games correct? Can't play all cupcakes like Alexander does.

I fiqured Nelsonville would keep the schedule good and take on teams that would keep us prepared for the playoffs im not sure who did the schedule but come on river valley i dont agree with playing this team....but i know any given day you can lose to a team you think is a cake walk but wow why not beef up the schedule and play teams that will battle test you in a fight on the gridiron...just my thought is all. :-D

Sometimes it takes getting beat by 40 to learn what it takes to be successful. The starters will get 1 half of play (More than likely) then ride the bench the rest of the game against River Valley. NY needs to play teams that are closer to there level of play so there starters can get more playing time. It is hard for players to learn and develop if they spend half the season on the bench because they are playing weak teams and blowing them out. That is why the Bucks get beat in the first round every year.

Which why Athens joining the TVC was a great move for Nelsonville-York ... right O & B?

Now they have a huge rivarly game with a quality opponent to prepare for all season until week 10 ... Its going to make the Buckeyes better in the long run - I'm almost 100% positive of that.
