South Central Ohio League Possible Expansion?
South Central Ohio League Possible Expansion?
Heard there might be one more school possibly being added to the South Central Ohio League (SCOL) giving the league a total of 8 teams? Anybody have any knowledge of it?
I wonder which team might be an expansion possibility?
Especially one that is close enough and would make a good fit for that league?
Isn't that league pretty close except Clinton Massie and Madison Plains?
I know the SCOL is made up of:
1. Greenfield McClain D3 and Hillsboro D3 are from Highland County
2. Miami-Trace D3 and Washington C.H. D3 are from Fayette County
3. London D3 and Madison Plains D4 are from Madison County
4. Clinton-Massie D4 is from Clinton County
Does anyone know which team outside of Clinton-Massie is the powerhouse in Football inside the SCOL? Is it still Miami-Trace or is it Washington C.H.?
I don't know much about the SCOL except for Greenfield McClain, Hillsboro and Washington C.H. three teams Chillicothe has played against in soccer, basketball, and baseball. Chillicothe also scrimmages Greenfield McClain every year in football. They seem to field some good teams. I have always thought the SCOL as more of a basketball league rather than football league. Should be interesting to see if the SCOL does expand to an 8 team league.
I assume they will choose someone that is close to the schools already in the SCOL if they do expand to an 8 team format.

Perfect fit for Westfall but I doubt they leave the SVC.

I have to agree that Westfall would be a nice fit but do not see them leaving the SVC.
The SCOL football championship normally goes through Clinton Massie, Miami Trace, and Washington C.H.-Hillisboro will come up with a good team every now and then.

Miami Trace is a big Div III not Div IV farthest trip for Westfall would be Clinton-Massie, 52 miles.

Teays Valley, Circleville, and Wilmington all used to be in the SCOL

Westfall already scrimages Clinton Massie and Miami Trace so I do not see the travel there as a problem. BUT I don't see westfall leaving the SVC.
I would look for maybe Wilmington to join back in there. Or Possibly Even Waynesville or East Clinton Johnathon Alder is a possiblity also

Chillicothe was a Charter Member of the SCOL. The CAVS were in the SCOL from the 1923 until 1940 and then again from 1945-1947.
The SCOL back then was:
Chillicothe
Greenfield
Hillsboro
Wilmington
Miami-Trace
Washington C.H.
Circleville

Re: South Central Ohio League Possible Expansion?
I doubt if Miami Trace was a charter member of the SCOL since it did not exist until the early 1960's. Until then there were several small schools in Fayette County: Bloomingburg, Good Hope, Madison Mills, New Holland, and Jeffersonville-those schools did not have football. If a student wanted to play football they had to go to Washington C.H.
If I remember correctly Chillicothe, from seeing old newspaper accounts, won 8 out of 9 SCOL championships while they were in the SCOL.

mtswngrvsg ,
You are correct, I accidently put Miami-Trace in there. Sorry!
Greenfield McClain was just Greenfield High School then, before consolidating with other schools and Washington High School instead of Washington C.H. High School.
I think, that the SCOL was looked at when Chillicothe was leaving the OCC before the SEOAL offer came open.
Here is the SCOL Football Championships The Chillicothe CAVS won.

Re: South Central Ohio League Possible Expansion?
They are talking about this on the puddle in an SCOL thread. I don't think any of it is serious talk though just throwing things out there like most of them do. they are discussing a LARGE SCOL with things like all pickaway county schools doing a north and south division and and all.
Some even said that Westfall was offered a spot in the SCOL but turned it down. But they would love to have c-ville back.
Right now though it all comes down to travel expenses.

Re: South Central Ohio League Possible Expansion?
I have heard that teams from the old original SCOL along with a few others being added and creating two seperate divisions, with 6 teams in each division to play for a championship, but playing each other in inter-divisional non-league games. Thus reducing travel even for the non-league games. Leaving room for the 2-3 normal outside teams to play against in non-league games too.
The league could consist of two 6 team divisions from Ross, Pickaway, Highland, Fayette, Clinton and Madison Counties.
One possibly being called the SCOL-Scioto Division.
One possibly called the SCOL-Buckeye Division.
All schools would be very close to each other
We'll have to wait and see.
Could get interesting

How solid is your information? With the price of fuel going up and up we could be surprised the changes that will happen just because of economics! Only time will tell.
Re: South Central Ohio League Possible Expansion?
A lot of it sounds like talk. I would not be surprised if the SCOL is looking for a neighorbing district to become its eighth member so they can have balance scheduling.
I really don't see MSL schools giving up the Buckeye Division, which makes even more sense today in high gas prices, in the next few years. Eventually Canal, Teays and Hamilton may outgrow the MSL and move on but I don't see that happening for a few years.
