OVC Changes?

Post by PointerFan02 »

Heard a rumor that River Valley is leaving, or wants to leave, the OVC and that the first school they're going to ask to join is Symmes Valley (which i think is a member of the SOC), and that they would accept.

Anyone know if there's any truth to this?

Didn't Willow Wood Symmes Valley use to be in the OVC in the 60's and 70's before transferring into the old SVAC :?:

With the following teams:

Mercerville Hannan Trace
Chesire Kyger Creek
Patroit Southwestern Gallia
Bidwell North Gallia
Mercerville Eastern Meigs
Racine Southern Meigs
Oak Hill (OVC Members 1946-1986)

IMO would hurt some teams come playoffs like RH, FHS,and SP. not enough computer points. I think it would not be a good move for those schools to admit S.V. I say if R.V. wants to leave let'em.

Symmes Valley has been worth more playoff points than River Valley the past ten years.

What would Willow Wood Symmes Valley D6 actually do in the OVC year in and year out over a 10 year span in all sports against:

Ironton Rock Hill D4 :?:

Dawson Byrant Coal Grove D5 :?:

Chesapeake D5 :?:

Proctorville Fairland D4 :?:

Why did they get out of the OVC in 1986 to join the little SVAC :?:

When the SVAC ended why did Symmes Valley opt to join the SOC I instead of going back to the OVC :?: :-D

Just asking, don't know much about SV. :-D

Symmes Valley to the OVC would be a major mistake.

Mattash is right. Symmes Valley would be a better addition to the OVC than River Valley has been. That is not a slam just my opinion. They have had a good program out there for a while. I would love to see them in the OVC. They got out years ago because they werent that competitive if I remember right, but that has changed. And before the folks at RV get upset I'm glad and appreciative of them coming to the OVC when the league needed them but it just hasn't been that great a fit either way.Again that's just my opinion.

it's not a good fit because of the location, not the competiveness.

I dunno about that. . .
isn't it quick backroads from CG and RH to symmes valley. .
either way isn't it closer than River valley
I think SV would bring more fans. .
and the SV teams i played would have whooped up on most of the ovc
the big question could be asked. . ..is the SV school district growing in numbers if so they wouldn't be a bad fit
and who cares about playoffs geeze. . .if your good enough to make an impact then your gonna make it!! the 04 peake team was the last even half decent ovc team. . .it would be good football most of the time.

How often is this rumor started each year? Have you ever heard anyone from RV say they are leaving?

My post is absolutely not a slam and if RV is happy in the OVC then by all means I think they should stay I'm just saying that I think Symmes Valley back in the OVC would be a good thing in all sports.

RV
02 --5-5 (3-2) Tied 2nd
03--6-4(1-4) 5th
04--2-8 (1-4) Tied 5th
05--1-9 (0-5) 6th
06--1-9 (0-5) 6th
07--1-9 (0-5) 6th

SV (lost to Chesapeke every year)
02--8-3
03--9-2
04--10-2
05--7-4
06--3-7
07--3-7

I highly doubt that Symmes valley could be competitive for the OVC championship but would probably go better than 5-25 in conference.

I posted the following in an Ironton thread, but it's probably more appropriate here:

I'll probably get slammed for saying this, but why doesn't Ironton play in the OVC? Travel costs wouldn't be a problem, and it's a pretty good league. I assume Ironton is still bigger than all other schools in the league (but maybe not given the city's decline), but it's still just a division IV school. I'd love to have Ironton in the league.

All right, I'm ready to take my shots. Just give me the reasons why this is an awful idea.

I agree getagrip, it would be a great fit, fact is if ironton didnt have football i guarantee they would be in the OVC, i know SP took some absolute beatings from ironton in the 2000's and would probably reject the idea in spite, can i blame them? not really. beating a team by 50 in two or three different instances is kind of unnecessary.....54-7,60-0,57-6,62-7 those are all in a row

Take away 5 games vs DVI teams and add the OVC teams to SV schedule. What would that do to their record?

SV played in SVAC back in the 70's also.

Why in the world would SV want to leave a D6 conference and join a conference that they could not compete in consistenlty. Why would the OVC want a D6 school that the present teams coulld not get play off points for beating. The Val is in a great league that suits them.
I dont think coach Webb would want in the OVC
