NY and Wheelersburg have played each other 4 times, all in the playoffs. They have never played each other in either Nelsonville or Wheelersburg as of yet.

Nelsonville-York vs. Wheelersburg
Series tied 2 wins, 2 losses
1981 Nelsonville-York (N) 14-0
1994 Wheelersburg (N) 28-7
1997 Nelsonville-York (N) 41-14
1998 Wheelersburg (N) 61-19

1981 = Division IV State Semifinals at Ironton
1994 = Division IV Regional Finals at Portsmouth
1997 = Division IV Regional Semifinals at Lancaster
1998 = Division V Regional Finals at Portsmouth

Turf in the Burg could be a while. Money is the big issue.

Yes thats true it does cost a lot of money. Maybe you guys can do Some fund raisers. ask local companys to match fundraising money. It only takes a couple of people with a plan to get something started.

Athens is one school that really really needs turf. When I was a Junior there, they supposedly had a large amount of money for a new turf field however it just up and vanished.

From what I undersand happened was that a long time buisness owner whose kids all whent to AHS was going to put turf down but did not want to include the lines and markings for soccer and there were some other issues of logos and how things were placed that the school board didn't like so they told him where to take his turf.

Ahhh, I see. Being I was a high schooler still, I wasn't(nor anybody else) was told much. So, we all thought it just vanished. It's sad really when people can't embrace all high school sports.

That's how I used to feel until I seen for myself how great the Boston Field rennovations turned out at NY. Now I love having the track around the football field. It's definately worth it for any new fields that may be built in the future.

Blue--actually it would be a good move IMO.Although bringing the bottoms back made a lot of sense logistically(ahem, ahem wonder whos idea that was? ;-) ) But admittedly, there are some negatives to practicing in the bottoms.Especially w/ the kicking game and actually getting a full-size field, width wise, w/o having the old pitchers mound or other hazards on the playing field. They could go back to practicing at Allard and then the motto Snuffy uses would really make sense-"The Original Tartan Turf"lol.
Plus, it would really cut down on maitainance expenses in the long run. It was always an issue with getting both fields mowed each week. . This would free up the current position for at least 2 days a week to do other duties. Plus the coaches always had to spend time striping both fields.
Initially, it would be a great expense, but I think it would free up a lot of time to focus on other needs.
I'm not always a huge fan of turf, but a lot of times it just makes more sense with logistics
