The combinations are endless. Another interesting possibility would be to combine the SOC, OVC, Portsmouth, and Ironton, and you could get 3 full sized (8 teams), all sport divisions that might look something like this:

SOC/OVC I
Portsmouth Notre Dame
Glenwood
East
Green
South Gallia
Clay
South Webster
Symmes Valley

SOC/OVC II
Valley
Minford
Oak Hill
Chesapeake
River Valley
Coal Grove
Piketon
Northwest

SOC/OVC III
Waverly
Wheelersburg
Portsmouth
Portsmouth West
Ironton
Rock Hill
South Point
Fairland

If the SOC won't take Portsmouth what makes you think they would take Ironton?

Im trying to show what chances that Ironton has in joining the OVC. Maybe I should have said there is a better chance of the pigs flying than Ironton going to the OVC.

I see what you are saying now.

pembrook burrows III,

We all know none of the dream stuff will happen, but a SOC I and SOC II could be strengthened by adding a few teams. Now something like this could actually work. But would the teams see the reality to vote for such an up-grade in the SOC :?:

SOC I-Football
Northwest-Switch..........give them a break in football :-D
Lucasville Valley-Switch
Portsmouth Notre Dame
Sciotoville East
Green
Symmes Valley
Oak Hill
South Gallia-Add

SOC I (Basketball Split Division)
Latham Pike Western
Beaver Pike Eastern
Portsmouth Clay
Portsmouth Notre Dame
New Boston

Sciotoville East
Green
Symmes Valley
Ironton St Joe Central-Add
South Gallia-Add

SOC II-Football
Waverly
Minford
Portsmouth West
Portsmouth-Add
Wheelersburg
Ironton-Add

SOC II (Basketball Split Division)
Waverly
Northwest
Minford
Lucasville Valley
Portsmouth West

Portsmouth-Add
Wheelersburg
Ironton-Add
South Webster
Oak Hill

OSU 77,

That's just plain childish. That's what they might be saying and, may even be holding a grudge against Ironton for their past accomplishments and attitude, but what's really behind all that bluff of smoke and screen excuses is just plain old being scared to let either school in their precious SOC II Conference. Why? Because, other than Wheelersburg and Portsmouth West, those other schools are afraid to play Ironton and Portsmouth in Football on a yearly basis. If it wasn't true, then why don't they step up and make people take notice that they are playing against the two schools with a football reputation. Waverly has played Ironton, I think in a series after leaving the SEOAL in 1983 and I believe Portsmouth in a few series, but nothing on a yearly basis like the Burg and West playing Portsmouth and the Burg playing Ironton every year.

Wonder why D5 Burg always wins the SOC II and why D5 West is getting better, and D4 Waverly is losing ground?

Maybe if Minford, Valley, Northwest and Waverly stepped up and said lets get these two in the SOC II, there might be some better teams in the long run for their conference. And if Northwest and Valley can't vote yes, let them go to the SOC I. The whole SOC voting amazes me to. You have SOC I schools voting that don't even play football. I would have only the SOC II schools voting, especially for anyone requesting to come into the SOC II. Maybe one day those two will get in the SOC II on the River.

Using your thought process then why would Ironton want to get out of the SEOAL. If playing against football powers makes your team improve why would Ironton leave?

Is there a reason this has not been in any newspapers as of yet? The last time this topic came up, it was all over all of the newspapers in southeastern Ohio.

Maybe its a secret and no one is supposed to know about it or it could be another rumor like it was last year and the year before that.

Independent schedule would be my guess for the near future.

Im just saying news like this would be reported on by the Tribune. I know they miss a lot of things, but reporting on Ironton football is one thing they do report well on.

Well Tigercannon guess they don't think it is too important.

Also leaving the league just doesn't involve football. It involves all sports.

I can not believe it was posted in the Logan paper before the Ironton Tribune.

I also agree this not only affects the football program but all other sports.

I talked to the AD at Ironton and he could not answer any of my questions. That is what happens when you put someone in charge that has no experience at all running sport programs.

Thanks for the link! Hopefully, this article will appear in The Athens Messenger as well, as I would like to read it in its entirety. Craig Dunn always writes outstanding columns, so I'm sure it is a well written article.

SEOAL stock certainly drops with the departure of Ironton. Wonder if the feds will give the league a bailout? :12224

I was told today, it was Lutz who wanted out.
the only reason he came back to coach, was to get that record, and it was going to take to long in the S.E.O.L.

He had 8 wins this season and only needs 6 to tie and 7 to take over as the all time winningest coach in the State of Ohio. With what Ironton has returning I would venture to guess he will get the record while the Tigers are still in the SEOAL.
:122245

1 Terry Malone 360-117-8, Hamilton Badin
2 Bob Lutz 354-79-5, Ironton, Ironton St. Joe

SEOAL Expansion: 3 years later:

1 Departure (Athens)
2 Imminent Departures (Z-Ville, Ironton)

= 7 teams (as opposed to 6 before expansion)

Roughly right back to where we started.
Jackson had it right when they voted against expanding.

Easy, qualified101, a little political sarcasm mixed in with the football.
