This years Tiger team is nothing like last years team so the comparison should not be made.

Marietta can't tackle and Jackson has trouble defending the pass so this game comes down to special teams and turnovers. Should be a fun game to watch though.

Marietta 2007
8/24 A Parkersburg South (WV) (0-10) [1:0] W 38-20
8/31 H Cambridge (7-3) [3:11] L 19-22
9/7 A New Philadelphia (6-4) [3:11] L 12-42
9/14 A Warren (3-7) [3:11] W 40-7
9/21 H Athens (1-9) [3:12] W 41-11
9/28 H Ironton (5-5) [4:15] L 20-61
10/5 A Logan (9-2) [2:7] L 20-76
10/12 H Zanesville (8-3) [2:7] L 7-49
10/19 A Chillicothe (4-6) [3:12] L 34-70
10/26 H Jackson (6-4) [2:8] L 14-42

Only SEOAL wins came against Warren and Athens. The last five league games they went 0-5, allowing more than 40 points to every opponent. 95-298 scoring differential is a negative 3-1. 19 ppg for and 59.6 against.

**********************************************************************************

Marietta 2008
8/22 A Hilliard Darby (4-1) [1:3] L 14-53
8/29 A Cambridge (2-3) [3:11] L 27-41
9/5 H New Philadelphia (5-0) [3:11] L 20-39
9/12 H Warren (2-3) [3:11] W 26-21
9/19 H Parkersburg South (WV) (2-2) [1:0] W 42-21
9/26 H Jackson (4-1) [2:8]
10/3 H Logan (5-0) [2:7]
10/10 A Zanesville (2-3) [2:7]
10/17 A Portsmouth (1-4) [4:15]
10/24 A Gallia Academy (3-2) [4:15]

The five game report card on them so far has them allowing 175 points (35 ppg) but that includes a killer non league schedule, and the Tigers are scoring more this year (24 ppg). Only Darby has held the Tigers under at least 3 TDs in a game. Through four games Westbrook is 69/126 passing for 1024 yds (255 pg) with 8 TDs and 7 INTs. That's almost 32 pass attempts per game, so the Jackson secondary is going to get a workout for sure.

Therefore it must be assumed that this will be the obvious matchup of Jackson's ground game vs Marietta's aerial assault. In that matchup, I see the Tigers with a definite advantage going against Jackson's traditional 4-4 defense that has proven vulnerable to the pass. One hope for the Ironmen is that perhaps Westbrook will give up his almost 2 picks per game average. Barring that I see Marietta winning.

On a side note, this Marietta senior class had a tremendous team as freshmen, going undefeated until a season ending loss at Logan, so the Tiger faithful have been building for this year for three years now.

Excellent viewpoint!

Jackson might take 6 minutes to score and Marietta might take a couple.
This could be hard on Marietta's Defense and if many of them play both ways their offense might get slowed down.
Keep the fresh legs coming in.

GO TIGERS

I was reading a few threads earlier and one I come accross said Marietta's Westbrook had over 1000 yards passing through the first 4 games...WOW...pretty impressive......That came from playing 4 good teams as well...

Army,

Jackson struggled defensively against Gallia Academy, so yes, you're right about that. I just can't see either team winning by 28 points and I think it's pretty ridiculous to make that prediction. I'd say you would feel the same way if I said Ironton was going to beat Chillicothe by four TDs. You have every right to your own opinion, but I think it was pretty disrespectful to a 4-1 football team that has been able to run the football successfully all year.

I have to agree with schenk11 as well. Last year means nothing right now. Jackson defeated Marietta 42-14 last year at Marietta, but that has no effect on this year's game. Marietta is a different team and so is Jackson. It's all about matchups...not looking at scores from the first five weeks of the season or last season. Marietta will throw the ball more than they'll run it...Jackson will run the ball more than they'll throw it. The team that executes its gameplan and takes care of the football on Friday night will get the win.

Very impressive numbers for Westbrook. He's definitely going to be hard for the Jackson defense to contain.

Ironman02,
Thanks for the update on Dante. After their game Jared and Dante talked for a while and Jared really got to know a few of the guys during the North-South game in 05.............I have a really good pic of them together after the game. I will see if I can get it on here

Great picture, 4theKids. Those two guys battled back and forth all night in the 2004 playoff game. Two of the best athletes that I have had the privilege to watch. I'll never forget the 36-35 thriller in Cincinnati...just glad Jared got the last word in the 4th quarter!

The last update I heard on Dante was that his surgery went very well and he should fully recover. His football career is definitely over, but he'll live a normal life with no real side effects from the injury. That's great to hear, but I'm sure it still kills Dante to know that he won't have a shot in the NFL. He worked so hard to get to this point...I just feel terrible for him.
