May end up being when it’s all said and done. The game Friday night was more lopsided than the score showed. Ironton doll trolled the game and speaking to many unbiased observers said Ironton is 3-4 Tds better if playing a clean game. Hopefully we see the matchup again in the playoffs.
The thing with "if they play a clean game" though is that they don't ever play a clean game...maybe against Rock Hill and South Point but not many other games. They're really good...but never play a clean game so...

They will be on punt returns, need work on the other parts of the game.

I was told they better be thankful they didn’t let the kid who scored on those punt returns take off and run much or it would have gotten real ugly.

Looking at the program from last Friday night. Does anyone realize Wheelersburg will replace 16 starters next year while Ironton replaces 6. Doesn’t give the impression that Wheelersburg is the younger team.

Offense

QB- Thacker
Tackle- Patterson
TE- Moore

Defense

DL- Patterson
LB- Hart
LB- Pittman

Everyone else is back in 2024. 😳

Wheelersburg

Offense
Tackle- Estep
Center- May
RB- Warren
RB- Hutchinson
TE- Risner
TE- Salyers
FB- Maxie
WR- Lattimore
K- Estep

Defense
DL- Risner
DL- Maxie
DL- Willoughby
DL- May

LB- Salyers
LB- Hutchinson
LB- Darling
DB- Warren

Can try to spin it however you want. It’s pretty cut and dry.

He ran plenty of times last night. He's going to be good player, most know that but both those jv teams need a lot of work.

It's understandable though. Burg played a bunch of freshman, Im sure Ironton played freshman. 5 sophomores play varsity for burg that didnt play last night.

Unlike what’s being said on here. Ironton is the younger team is the point I was making. They replaced a lot more pieces on both sides and will really improve as the season goes. I do believe Wheelersburg will as well. But Ironton has tremendous upside.

Ironton may have the younger team grade wise, but as far as starters the inexperience is about the same.

Both teams need work. Ironton 21 points off three punt returns. Other than that, neither team flexed any muscle.
Wait, we’re bragging about JV games? 🤦‍♂️

A big chunk of Burg’s varsity starters and backups are JV age. Those games mean squat with regards to what will happen two years from now when they are playing varsity.

Next we’ll be talking about what happened on the 5th grade team.
Most of our JV team is Freshmen

The difference was the coaching adjustments by Ironton and the Tigers always seem to be much stronger. As someone mentioned before, the Tiger staff is out hustling the competition.

Mowery and Evans are not seniors. One is a junior, other is a sophomore.

Also, isn’t IHS’ quarterback a senior?

Lets go with experience, not just starters, because there were different starters for different packages

Burg
May, Risner, Warren, Willoughby, Estep, Salyers, Hutchinson, Estep, Mowery, Darling, *** Lattimore - Let's count those guys - That's 11

Ironton
Bump, Gossett, Patterson, Copas, Layne, Terry, Schreck, Williams, Thacker *** Pittman, Hart - That's 11

I looked at rosters for both jv teams last night, both had seniors, juniors, sophomores, and freshmen playing in that game.

And both JV's need work.

The truth is Ironton will have the advantage over burg most years if Pendleton continues to get quality transfers. I'm waiting to see his record and what he can do when he doesn't. The last time he didn't he was 6 and 5. Hard to believe that was 5 years ago.
