When they start games at 7:30pm, the game does not get over until past 10pm. Mainly because of the 23+ minute halftime.
HS needs to go NFL style 12 minute halftime.
I guess some people just come to watch the band. Just like OU.

In many parts of the state, games have already been starting at 7:00. This is a new thing for most of us. In a lot of cases, it makes it hard for parents/fans to get home from work and then make it to a game 45 minutes away in rural Ohio by 7:00. I think the thought process was to get kids home earlier, but does it really matter if they get home at 10:45 or 11:15 on a Friday night?

Personally 7:00p.m. on Friday is STUPID. Makes it that much harder for "working" folk to get there. What's it matter if it is over at 10:00p.m. or 10:30p.m. I don't think that 1/2 hour will matter much on the back end. Waverly was in the SEOAL years ago and football games started at 8:00p.m. (traveling to places like Ironton, Gallipolis, Logan, Meigs). We traveled much farther than and started 1/2 later at 8:00p.m.

The score was 16-13 but the Tigers pretty much dominated. Clayton Howell with a great job running the offense, big BIG TD pass to Cade Marquez after scrambling to buy time. A great job by the DEFENSE to shut down the Sherman offense. Other than a long kickoff return to set them up right before halftime and a long run by Hosley to put them at the 5 and eventual TD the Shermans never threatened. A big win for the Tigers as they prepare to hit the road the next two weeks.

Excellent ballgame to watch. Unioto has some impressive athletes and Waverly did a good job containing them. The Tigers seemed to play with more intensity and emotion than last week. The offense was much more deliberate and crisp also. It appeared they worked out a lot of the bugs. Great improvement over the last couple of games.

I thought Waverly's QB #6 showed a great deal of composure and poise playing in a tight game against a quality opponent with the rain pouring down. Just a nice win for the Tigers. Good Luck to Unioto. They should challenge for the SVC title and have a nice shot at making the playoffs.

Great win by the Tigers! Hosley is as advertised...tough kid with nice speed and size! I thought Waverly's front 7 did a great job of getting penetration and getting to him before he could get going, and we were getting there with numbers. I thought the Tiger staff called a nice game...used a couple of beautiful screens to change field position and get us out of some tough spots. Defensively, this team continues to play well, even with their backs to the wall. I thought Clayton played pretty well, considering some tough throwing conditions. The play where he scrambled and kept his eyes downfield and made a great throw that went for a TD showed some maturity and poise for a sophomore. I thought our oline got some pretty good push up front, and Harris was more patient tonight, seeing those cutback lanes...he also broke some tackles. Cade Marquez continues to ballhawk in the secondary.

Waverly often seems ready to right the ship then injury, bad bounce, or bad luck knocks them back. Waverly needs something good to happen but it will not be against the Shermans. Unioto 24-13.
Color me wrong on that pick and congratulations are in order for the Tigers. Losing breeds losing and hopefully winning will lead to more wins.

How did the new turf handle the rain? Some installs I have seen do not drain well and puddle up in spots. Even that
is better than an old style Radiger Field mud bog.

Well earned win for the Tigers. Great defensive effort to contain a true stud in Hosley. Unioto's offense was essentially limited to 2 big Hosley runs and one big pass, which should have been knocked down. There was also the roughing the kicker penalty prior to a big Hosley run that set up a Unioto score. I read that Hosley ran 21 times for 155 net yards. I bet over half of those came on 2 plays, but I still would have run him even more if I called the plays. Was Hosley hurt near the end of the game?

The rain probably hurt both teams' passing games. Unioto essentially had no passing game (and why throw much when you have Hosley as a running QB). Waverly was better, but 7-16 (44%) and 2 ints is nothing to brag about. In the first quarter a lot passes looked really bad, but again I am sure the rain affected that some. After the rain let up and Howell settled down there were a couple nice screen passes and the big scramble and long TD pass. A few called QB runs helped keep Unioto honest even if he did not gain a lot of yards. I don't think Howell ran much if any last week.

I noticed a lot fewer (none?) errant shotgun snaps this week, which greatly helps the timing of the offense on both runs and passes. The first couple games had a lot of balls at the QB's feet or over his head which I think really hurt the offense. Harris ran hard as always. Marquez seems to be the big play receiver; they need to call his number more. Nice to see Teeters handling the PATs and FGs. He looks like he would be good from 40+ yards out. If he had been used against Piketon, that game wouldn't have come down to the end like it did. I don't understand why he is not kicking off. I also don't know how the long snapper doesn't know he needed to be on the field for the last PAT; coaches need to stay on top of that. The low snap caused that PAT to never get kicked.

Now on to Fast Times at Ridgedale High!

Omega,
The turf was amazing. Sportscape did an amazing job with excavating and drainage. Not one puddle anywhere.
It was a monsoon last night and rained all game. Under last years field conditions we may have had to postpone to Saturday and play at a different venue.

Waverly is in good hands with Clayton Howell at QB. His poise is great for a sophomore and showed a lot of maturity and patience last night. The TD pass to Cade Marquez was a thing of beauty. Flushed from the pocket, rolled and rolled all the while keeping his eyes downfield and threw a rope to Cade in the end zone.
The Tigers are missing Logan's quickness and speed and especially his presence at safety.
Once he is cleared to return I would love to see Clayton at QB and Logan in the slot/Hback, etc. Try to utilize his quickness and speed on the offensive side of the ball much better than was being done at the QB position. Both of these guys on the field at the same time will open up the offense, making it much more dangerous. Look at Ohio State and Braxton Miller.
Of course that is just me talking and not the coaches. I say whatever is best for the TEAM and the best chance to win. At this point sophomore vs junior is a mute point. Clayton has shown his poise, maturity, patience, ability to lead the offense, etc.
The DEFENSE played very well last night, controlling for the most part Unioto's offense. Logan at safety would have made the defense that much better. Should the Tigers continue to improve each week and avoid further injuries they should pick up some more wins.
