Greg Frey's State Championships and Mr. Football Predictions

Post by teach1coach2 »

Fox Sportstime Ohio had their OHSAA playoff show tonight. Three announcers gave their picks.

Greg Frey picked Athens to win the D3 state title, Trimble to win the D7 state title, and Joe Burrow to be the Ohio Mr. Football.

The other two guys picked Hubbard and Trotwood Madison to win the D3 title and both picked Marion Local to win D7.
One picked the Triway QB as Mr. Football and the other picked the Hudson QB.

723 OHSAA HS' had football this fall. 224 are in the playoffs. There will be 26 regional champions and 7 state champions.

PS Greg Frey is a former starting QB at Ohio State. I believe it was during the Earle Bruce era.

I watched the show and for the most part the guys didn't know what they were talking about, and couldn't even get the names of a lot of schools correct.

I hope some one beats Marion Local, and I think Trimble may be the only chance.
Burrow is the ideal choice for Mr. football. Great numbers and OSU commitment. Only problem is he isn't from Northern or South West Ohio. (Seems like no one from central or southeastern Ohio ever win the award)

Nope, he played for Coop. Gotta admit Greg's picks are pretty bad.

D1: Hudson
D2: Bedford
D3: Athens
D4: Kettering Alter
D5: Coldwater
D6: Kirtland
D7: Marion Local

I think Kirtland and Marion Local are absolute locks to win their divisions this year

Marion Local could probably win D5, 6 and 7. But Kirkland won't win region 17. Loundonville wins it and the state title.

D1: St. X
D2: La Salle
D3: Hubbard
D4: Alter
D5: Coldwater
D6: Loudonville
D7: Marion Local

Out of all the Divisions, Marion Local is an absolute lock in D7. They probably won't have anything closer than a 21 pt win and would probably win D5 and D6 too.

Marion Local beat Coldwater 20-0 this year, Coldwater is the favorite to repeat in D5. Last year they hung over 40 on Coldwater in a blow out. I would not be scared to say that Marion Local would have as good a shot as any in any division 2 through 7. They will simply roll through the playoffs including the final game. My upset pick in D3 is whomever wins between Athens and Tri-Valley in the second round. I think they will beat Hubbard down the road. I'd also venture to say that Marion Franklin will finally bring one home to the City League in D4. Division 1/2/6 are wide open.

This guy is a moron. To not pick Marion local to win D7. It would take a plaque of some major proportions to hit western ohio for this to happen.

Someone has to do the show. When ONN ceased to be, I was glad at least someone picked it up.

Didn't Noah Key win Mr. Football?

No Akis Teague from Ursuline won it that year. There's been 3 guys ever from Central Ohio to win.
