Maria Stine posted they have an enrollment of 89 boys and 87 of them played football. Coldwater has 169 Boys and have a roster of 100 boys. Minster is near the same. As This league (MAC) produced 3 state champions in 2014, they're mostly from Mercer county, and they have dominated small school football over the past decade. The biggest thing I notice is that they do not offer soccer as a fall sport. It's either you play football or you're in the band. It's a right of passage and a matter of family pride that you play football in that area of the state. Soccer has killed SEO football.

This is a totally unfair statement. Phil has been a great supporter of Trimble soccer. We practice in the ole pickle building right by the stadium. Works out great. We even try to supply him with a kicker once in awhile.

Soccer has not killed football numbers no more than one sport players has over the years. More kids on advise from high school coaches, travel coaches and parents are telling their kids, if you want to be good in a sport, pick and work at it all season.

Once every five to ten years or so SE Ohio will produce a high school football team that will make a deep run in the playoffs. Every year I would expect the overall quality of football played in SE Ohio to gradually improve due to better coaching and training of athletes. That said, SE Ohio will never likely be able to go toe to toe with other districts in Ohio on a consistent basis. The reasons: static or declining numbers of school age kids and declining financial resources because of the ever struggling economy. Demographics is destiny.
