Coaching Changes 2015

Post by 4thgoal »

I thought it would be good if all the discussions on new coaches could be in one thread.

New Coaches
Portsmouth - Coach Duncan
South Point - Coach Coffman
Zane Trace - Coach Hall
Fairland - Coach Cunningham

Open (?) Jobs
Wellston
Logan Elm
Vinton Co.
Greenfield McClain

If any other jobs are confirmed open, feel free to add them to the list.

Dwane Hall returns at Zane Trace. He was the Head Coach in 2004 and 2005.
He has also been an assistant there in the past and is a teacher at the school.

South Point is no longer vacant. They hired Chad Coffman from Ashland Crestview.

Fairland could be awhile before they hire or announce a hire. I would say maybe as late as April or May.

I had heard rumors to that effect, but never any real confirmation

How has the applicant turnout been for this position? With the window given, would you expect them to still compete this year at the varsity level or make some adjustments to their current schedule?

They had 31 people apply for the job, so I expected a much longer process, but the BOE hired much quicker than I thought they would.

Terry Holbert is the new coach at Logan Elm. Holbert will leave Millersport where he did an amazing job of turning around not only their football program, but the baseball program as well.

Vinton County is still open. Apparently one of the hold ups is they can't decide what nickname to call the coach.

Coach Lucas (Big Dad) was informed that they would not be renewing his contract. It's gonna be interesting to see where they go with this one.

Writing was on the wall for Lucas in my opinion. Most seasons CG was the elite team of the OVC, not anymore. With the entrance of Ironton and Portsmouth this season and Gallia Academy next season that put that to rest. Yes, CG has talented kids coming up but how many will they lose to Ironton? When conference realignment began I thought the elder Lucas would depart from CG. Do they completely change directions or do they hire his son as football coach?
