Some new teams in D V, R 19.

Looks like Ironton barely made the cutoff for D IV, R 15. Whenever Ironton and Portsmouth drop to D V numbers, Region 19 will be a beast!

From just looking at the D5 teams, it looks like the regions are divided up like congressional districts, anyone else smell corruption?? How can teams north of Columbus be in region 19, while the Ross County teams are in region 20? Also noticed Belpre & Fort Frye are in region 17, which has teams from as far away as Cleveland and Youngstown.

You are right, 15 of 29 Teams in Region 19 are above Columbus, two Counties from Lake Erie :122248 .

I would say its political, not corruption when it comes to 5-19.
Every D5 team from the Wayne county league was placed in 5-19 instead of there normal 5-17 home. Call this the "Ursuline "problem. As you may recall, it is the Wayne County supers who started the latest uproar over disparity of Privates over Public school success in the playoffs. I think Ohsaa made the moves to try to calm the situation down and placate the Wayne county Supers.

So now if Belpre or Fort Frye would happen to make the playoffs, a trip to Ursuline wouldn't be out of the question for a first round game. That would be very ugly but the Wayne county teams sure got their wish. At least the supers got their point across I guess.

I just got done looking at all the sceanario's in Reg. 5-19 and wow. A trip between let's say Coal Grove and Ashland Crestview (probably the farthest) off the top of my head would be around a 4 - 4 1/2 hour drive roughly depending on traffic. Wow and Wow again.

Yep. Right on. They sacraficed the PVC to region 17 in so that the Wayne Co schools would quit whining. Region 17 isn't any tougher than Region 19 other than the 800 lb gorrilla Ursuline. And there's nothing special about the WCAL. They won't dominate R19.

I see Ursuline reduced its numbers even further. They have obviously made a decision to be a D5 school from here on out. They won't be going anywhere for a long time.

And yeah, I'd hate that Wheelersburg to Smithville first round game. Smithville to Marietta is about 2 1/2 hrs so whatever Marietta to Wheelersburg is... it's a long trip.

Wheelersburg to Smithville is 202 miles going through Columbus, not Marietta.

The longest possible trip is Coal Grove to Rittman. 230 miles 4 to 4 1/2 hours and the quickest route is through Columbus. Rittman is 16 miles SW from Akron

The best thing about this is we will no longer have to hear from the Wellston people how they are going to be a D-5 team.
