Remember the days when Mike Devol had 100 kids out for football at South?

Sounds like coach Bolen is doing what he does best, believing in quality over quanity.

Never thought I would see the day when South couldn't field a JV team.

Aren't they a D1 equivalent in Ohio?

Coach Devol also had in the 90's out at Warren at one time. Shame that south cancelled the JV game. Heard that they had 16 freshmen and a handful of sophomores that could play. Warren has about the same. So, o well. And yes South is a AAA team in W.Va. and is maybe about the size of Logan possibly alittle bigger. So they would be a big DII or a small D1, just a shot but might give you some idea.

Just checked JoeEitel.

He lists South as division 1 which means their enrollment numbers would put them as a D1 school were they in Ohio. Joe is pretty spot on when it comes to that stuff.

Don't get me wrong, we've had years when our numbers were WAY down ('97, '98, '99), but we still had JV teams with 14-15 kids. Good to get them work.

South has nearly 650 boys in grades 9-11. They are the 14th largest high school in WV. PHS is 12th.

This makes them Ohio D-1 (518 and up). They are larger than Logan. They are nearly the same in size to Lancaster's 646.
