In terms of overall finishes yea I would agree with this 100%
Re: Your schools best team(s) ever!
I am not at all disrespecting the 1960 team, but how can you even compare the two (99 team). As we all know, athletes have only gotten bigger, faster, stronger, etc. Stowers is a legend, but the 99 team featured Josh Waugh (D5 offensive player of the year) and Robbie Issacs (1st team all-state, Marshall WR), along with other really good players. Can you imagine the offensive line differences in 1960 v 1999? Robbie Issacs was a 10.7 100m state champion, someone really going to cover him? Stowers was 175 pounds in high school. He played at 195 as a linebacker in college.purpleblood1 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2019 12:09 pmBest team Chesapeake every had was the Sonny Stowers led 1960 teams. They lost 2 games late then bounced back against CG to finish 8-2 and received votes in the final Class A writers poll after getting as high as 6th in the state.avalanche wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2019 4:25 pmThey were above average.
Chesapeake 1999 team went 11-1, with an undefeated regular season. They eventually lost to Amanda, who would win the state title. The 2000 team went 8-2 with both of their losses coming by a combined 3 points (Wayne state runner up, and Minford D4 playoffs).
2002 team went to the regional finals, again before falling to Amanda.
In my heart of hearts I can't say lined up toe-to-toe the 1960 team would be within 3 touchdowns of the 99 team. The game has evolved so much in that time. After the 60 and 99 team, honestly we are comparing all like things essentially. I love Kevin Rice, but he was 5'7, 145 in high school. Comparing era's becomes so complicated, but saying a 1975 8-2 team v a 99 10-0 team is better, while one featured two divison 1 players, and along with four all-state players on the roster, is hard to swallow that they were better.
Re: Your schools best team(s) ever!
The football history has not been all that kind to Green, but both the 1989 and the 1990 teams would certainly top the list.
The 1989 team went 10 and 0 and qualified 3rd in Division 5 Region 19. The Bobcats defeated Trimble in the opening round of the playoffs 43-22. The Bobcats fell to Shadyside in Round 2 21 to 7.
In 1990, the Bobcats again finished 10 and 0 and were the Number 1 seed in Sivision 5 Region 19 (#8 Ap Poll).
The Bobcats defeated Caldwell 28 to 21 in the First Round of the 1990 playoffs. Green fell in the Regional Finals the following week to Newark Catholic 21 to 7.

Actually if you want to compare D1 players then the '60 teams blows all others away. Besides Stowers that went to Navy, there were for others who were scheduled to go to D1 schools. But, due to family commitments and injuries they ended up not going. As for Kevin he was not 5'7" 145lb I think you are thinking of Aaron.avalanche wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2019 2:00 pmI am not at all disrespecting the 1960 team, but how can you even compare the two (99 team). Athletes are bigger, stronger, faster today than 1960. I respect how difficult it is to go undefeated, and that's an accomplishment that can't be taken away. Comparing teams generations apart is near impossible. If you don't include the 99 team, and you do a two loss team, I am not sure what to tell you. The 99 team lost a single game, to the state champion, and knocked off the #3 team in the state the first round. They were really good, and featured a lineup that will include at some point probably 4-5 hall of fame players at Chesapeake (Issacs is in, Waugh will be, Clark will be, Mike Hunt goes in this year with his brother and dad). The football program from 96-06 was the best decade ever at Chesapeake. TO not include a single team from that decade is honestly a bit disrespectful.
How would the 60 team cover Issacs? Seriously? How would they deal with the speed? Would the 60 team attempt a pass?

Joey Burrow led Athens Bulldogs was the best team to ever play in southern Ohio. No debate needed

Coach James is a class act! A tremendous person and mentor to young people. It's a shame that some on this site want to constantly bash coaches and players, but what else are you to do if you are a jerk. Coach James invested his life to young people as do a lot of coaches. He doesn't want your pat on the back, even though he deserves it, but all he asks is to be respected. He has earned that!
Btw....I did notice he signed his post with his name.
Much respect Coach!
