319 is a very good team score at Portsmouth Elks. This early in the season it is good to see different players shooting low scores. By season end, i believe the Fighting Tigers will be a force in the districts and maybe even the state.

PORTSMOUTH — Balance is best.

The Ironton Fighting Tigers golf team didn’t have the medalist in the Portsmouth Invitational on Thursday, but the overall team balance produced a two-stroke victory.

After winning their own invitational on Monday and a triangular on Wednesday, Ironton won its third match of the season with a 319 score while Portsmouth Clay had a 321 total.

Mason Weisgarber and Josh Zornes shot 78s to lead Ironton. Jonathan Williams was just two strokes back at 80, Andy Holtzapfel shot an 83 and Josh Mullins carded an 84.

Weisgarber and Zornes finished in a four-way tie overall in the individual standings. Williams tied Hillsboro’s Will McKenna for ninth place.

Jackson’s Morgan Dobbins took medalist honors with a 72. He was second to Zornes at the Ironton Invitational.

West Union, who shot a 360 on Monday, was third with a 325 score. The Dragons improvement was bolstered by the return of Corey Richmond who missed the Ironton tournament.

Gallipolis was fourth at 330, one stroke ahead of Wheelersburg.

Ironton plays Chesapeake in Huntington, W.Va., Monday.

Strong work, IHS golfers....

What class (Soph, Senior, etc.) are the members of the team on? If I recall correctly, they were young last year with the exception of Sire Nate.
