Wellston at Chesapeake

Post by wrestlersdad6766 »

Wellston went to Chesapeake today and placed 2nd as a team. Spring Valley took 1st. Other teams there were: Fairland, Lincoln County, Chesapeake and Winfield.

Wellston had quite a few wrestlers place today.
Those taking 1st were:
130lb. Richie Kisor
152 lb. Tyler Wilburn
189 lb. Matt Lockard
215lb. Benny Grey

Those taking 2nd were:
112 lb. Adam Fairchild
125 lb. Michael Mckinnis
135lb. John Willis
160lb. Matt Kelly

Congratulations boys!!! Keep up the good work!!!

One thing that I do want to mention is about the Spring Valley team. Usually after each match the kids go over and shake the other team'coaches hands but Spring Valley does not do this and I think that it is very disrespectful of the coaches to not have their kids do this. I have seen them at a couple of meets this year and not once have I seen them shake hands. Just my opinion but I think that it shows a lack of respect for the other teams.

There's no rule stating that a wrestler must shake hands with the other kid's coaches. I don't know how this got started, but it seems a little overkill. When I wrestled, we never shaked the other coaches hand. It does show good sportsmanship, but so does shaking the kids hand that you wrestled and walking off the mat. I don't think this will ever be a rule. In fact, some kids use it as way to gloat after a win. Although, I do know what you mean.
