Re: River Valley Raiders New Coach?
I dont think the number is relevant at all. Look at the type of people who are transferring. Maybe some kids switched over to county schools who werent looking to participate in sports or were not your top-level players, but I can think of a number of top-level athletes who transferred from the coun...

Re: Boys 2010 TVC Preview
I'm pretty sure his last name ends in an 'e.' Not to play semantics with you. However, I don't think it insignificant that you literally copy & pasted this post into the other TVC thread. Add some actual insight, don't just promote "your guy." Insight doesn't come from spamming the sam...

Re: Question for Gallia Academy XC past and present
Hey coach, I'm not sure exactly how far it is around that loop. I can tell you that it is 3 miles to run a loop all the way around downtown Gallipolis (starting at the parkfront on 1st avenue, going all the way down to the corner where the auto garage is and turning left to run by the Holzer Sycamor...

Re: South Point @ River Valley 1/26
Personally I wouldn't want any players on the team that are the wishy-washy type and choose not to play because they "don't like the coach." That's a weak mentality. Blaming someone who will never make a bad pass, miss a key shot, or even take a shot at all is an exercise in futility. Work...

Re: 2010 Point Pleasant Track Meets
Great to hear that you guys got a track put in along with the new school. That makes Point the only all-weather surface around except for Rio Grande. For schools that don't want to make the trip to Fairland, Athens, Marietta, Jackson, etc. for every meet (especially weekdays) this is great news. It ...

Re: bad things in bidwell
The things to remember this time of year are to always run in the daylight (and especially avoid twilight--the time right before the sun goes completely down and when objects are the least visible--not the book for you young'uns) which is admittedly harder to swing in the winter, and try to avoid th...

Good idea. This can be a great way for folks on the team, parents, alums, etc. to track whats going on down there in Raider country.

Re: Nelsonville-York Cross Country
Great to see another program being started and building itself up in the area. It can only mean good things for the level of competition, as well as the district numbers. Those are always a sticking point. The more full teams that toe the line at districts, the greater chance there is that they will...

Re: River Valley Meet - You are invited
Little late, but glad to see the meet went so well at the new venue. I'm sure Coach Sayre would be proud to put his name on it. He touched a lot of lives and taught a lot of kids some important values. I'm one of them, and can't thank him enough for all that he has done for me. Now that the course h...

You are absolutely correct in some respect SERunner. Unfortunately, when statutes are passed like title IX they have little power until the court interprets their meaning/intent and provides case law through prior litigation. That is usually the case with government bills. They need to be interprete...

Re: Where Did Last Years Seniors Go
You rarely get offered to run anywhere without prompting the coach first. You have to find your own fit and go there, taking care that the school is good for you and you can pay for it--there isnt much money out there for running.

Re: SEOAL Finish
Ill tell ya, there is nowhere that is safe from the cuts. SEC schools have cut track for Title IX reasons. Without the various proposed amendments being passed to exclude football from the calculations, we are fighting an uphill battle. Womens teams are already carrying excess amounts of athletes in...

Re: Unioto's Galen Dills becomes a Buckeye!!!!
uhs_coach is right, most schools that do make a "profit" do so only with the help of money from the school and general fund. However, if you hold them responsible to the same degree that we hold a normal business and expect them to be self-sustaining then you will see that very few can mak...

Re: Unioto's Galen Dills becomes a Buckeye!!!!
Only a handful of football programs (5-6) actually turn a profit. The rest lose money, so despite popular thinking that is not the reason for the scholarship disparity. Basketball costs less, so maybe 3 times that many programs turn a profit in that sport. Overall, though, all these sports lose mone...

Re: River Valley Coach
I think he'll still be at that 300m mark during meets. The athletic stadium at River Valley should undergo some sort of name change in his honor. There has never been a coach I've met who has put in the time and effort for a high school team that coach did. He was always the first to arrive and the ...

Re: Word on RV basketball
Stout has accepted the job. I think this will be a good move to continue the success of the RV basketball program. Belpre was always competitive during his time. The only complaint that I can see is the JV coach not getting the internal look. I'm not sure what went on there, but from the perspective...

I agree about Coach Grimm. I met him at a Chillicothe Paints game a couple years back, really nice guy. He has certainly done his part to help build up the sport of track and field in the area. Good luck to him and his squad.
