Re: Ute And 9 OHSAA Board Of Directors To Decide Possible Additional Divisions
I don't like the idea of the smaller schools voting to determine the fate of the D1 schools. They're not in a small D1's situation. Easy for them to cast a vote and not worry about what happens in D1.

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2023-24
It was a wild night at Trojan Arena, as two ancient rivals battled for 3 OT's before Portsmouth prevailed over Ironton 92-85. IHS led by 11 at the half, but PHS rallied to within 4 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Ironton's Brayden Schreck nailed a baseline jumper to send the game into the 1st OT. Iro...

Re: Black History Month and The Portsmouth Trojans
Thank you Jeaux Burreaux.......I proofread it a couple of times and did edit near the bottom to include DeAndre Berry being a senior on this year's team. Thought it would be proper to mention him along with this being Coach Lisath's first season.

Re: Fairland 68- Portsmouth 51 Final
Congratulations to both the Portsmouth Lady Trojans and the Fairland Lady Dragons on their co-OVC title. Was at the game and the spirit of the crowd was the best I've seen in a long time. Definitely had a tournament feel to it. The Lady Dragons were the better team on this night, but the Trojans hun...

Re: Best Players in SE Ohio 2000 era
Two players from Ironton stand out......Trey Fletcher and Zac Carter. Both played on the Fighting Tigers' 2013 D3 state tournament team. Also from Fairland 6-8 Collin Van Horn, who went on to have a very good career at Cedarville. Luke Thomas was also a standout with Van Horn on that 2017 Fairland t...

Re: Best Players in SE Ohio 2000 era
Good lists by all above, but I did not see much about the Portsmouth Trojans. Here's some that come to mind: Dion McKinley (2012)......First team All-Ohio, D3 State Runnerup, 1,096 points for his career. Wayne Evans (2012).......D3 State Runnerup (2012), 1,096 points for his career, made winning sho...

Re: Ute And 9 OHSAA Board Of Directors To Decide Possible Additional Divisions
Jose is right about D1. It needs to be split up. Absolutely unfair for small D1's to compete against giant D1's. Almost 1,000 boys difference is some cases in D1.

Re: Scoring 1000 points-Is it that big of deal anymore?
Portsmouth only has 12 players who have scored at least 1,000 points and who played only at Portsmouth HS. There are 2 others who attained 1,000 points and played at 2 schools. Kenny Sanderlin and Andrew Bendolph, both of whom played at Wheelersburg and Portsmouth. In the history of Portsmouth HS ba...

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2023-24
DeAndre Berry continues to move up the ladder on the Portsmouth Trojans 1,000 point scorers list. Against Chesapeake he passed Damond Mannon's 1,057 point total with a 20 point game, and now has 1,073 points, good for 10th place all time. He scored 14 points vs. Portsmouth West and now has 1,087. He...

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2023-24
Portsmouth finished the week with 3 wins as the Trojans bested the Portsmouth West Senators on Saturday night @PHS 56-42. The game was tied at halftime, but PHS built as much as a 16 point lead in the 2nd half. Donnovan Breech led the Trojans with 19 points, while Malachi Loper had 15 and DeAndre Be...

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2023-24
The Trojans' JV team dropped to 4-10 after last night's loss to Chesapeake. More competitive effort from the JV, but still problems scoring consistently.

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2023-24
Malachi Loper has 821 points in his career thus far, counting Portsmouth Clay and PHS, and he is on pace to pass 1,000 at some point in his senior season in 2024-25.

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2023-24
Portsmouth got a huge OVC win last night at Chesapeake, as the Trojans bested the Panthers 59-44 @CHS on Senior Night. PHS is now 5-0 away from home in the OVC, leaving them as the only unbeaten team on the road in conference play. Chesapeake led 18-13 late in the 2nd quarter, but a 7-0 run by PHS g...

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2023-24
Let me clear up any rumors about Malachi leaving Portsmouth. Last night I talked to his father after the Chesapeake game, and he assured me 100% that Malachi is STAYING at PHS and WILL NOT be going back to Clay.
Case closed.

Re: Portsmouth Trojans 2023-24
Just want to give a shout out to our 7th grade Trojan boys team that won the OVC tournament. Our 7th graders played up all season against the opposing 8th graders, and only lost 2 games. In the OVC tournament, they played against the 7th grade teams and won every game handily. GREAT JOB COACHES JOE ...

VERY PROUD OF THE LADY TROJANS AND COACHES AMY AND MIKE HUGHES! Looking forward to the game Monday to see the Lady Trojans get the opportunity to win the OVC outright!! It will a tough game, because the Fairland Dragons are REALLY good, but our Trojans can do it!! This program has come a long way, a...
