Re: Basketball expanding to 7 divisions

Using this year's enrollment and competitive balance numbers, here is roughly what 7 divisions would look like (assuming they take the largest schools in D1 like football): Division 1 (64 schools) : None Division 2 (122 schools) (cutoff:356) : Logan, Chillicothe Division 3 (122 schools) (250-355) :...

Re: 16 Team Playoffs worth it?

Being completely honest I think the better route would be into expansion of the regions and getting more teams in from that way. I see zero reason that we have teams making a 3 hour or more drive to play a opening round playoff game in that "region". Increase the overall regions and allow...

Re: OHSAA: Behind Closed Doors..Adding Basketball Divisiosn

I think creating 3 new divisions is too much, but I think 1 or 2 is acceptable. This is what I think it could be:

5 Divisions:
D1 - 96 Teams
D2-D5 - 176 Teams each

6 Divisions
D1 - 80 Teams
D2-D6 - 144 Teams each

Currently
D1-D4 - 200 Teams each

Re: Time to go back to 8 team playoff???

That time has come and gone, once the genie is let out of the bottle, they're not going to put it back. Sadly, you nailed it. That's why I suggested 14 teams as it would be a minimal change for the overall format (made 3rd round home games instead of neutral site to provide the 2 bye teams the oppo...

Re: Time to go back to 8 team playoff???

I was thinking about this earlier this week, but didn't want to create a new thread during rivalry week, but since this was started, might as well make a post here. I think 16 teams is too many. I really like 12, but I don't think we'll go back down to 12. Top 4 lose money from a game they should wi...

Re: Northwest possibly destroying their own program??

Take out Manchester though I thought about it, but since they're actually joining as a football only member in SOC I, and there are 15 FB teams from the SOC II and OVC schools, having 7 SOC I schools could help with late season scheduling as I'm sure some schools might schedule down (thinking NW, O...

Re: Northwest possibly destroying their own program??

Honestly, just merge the SOC and OVC and split the groups into this geographically and athletically. Football SOVC I: East Eastern Green Manchester (FB only) Notre Dame South Gallia Symmes Valley SOVC II: Chesapeake Dawson-Bryant Fairland Rock Hill South Point SOVC III: Minford Northwest Oak Hill Po...

Re: Northwest possibly destroying their own program??

Read an article this morning that Northwest who is moving back to the SOC II may be looking to forfeit games against West, Wheelersburg, and Minford. If true why sabotage your own program after you just put confidence in your players to now basically say you're not good enough to play the bigger sc...

Re: Ironton out of OVC in 2024.

Playing a little bit of catchup seeing some realignment news and rumors floating around and thought of a proposal. It seems like the FAC is interested in Waverly, and Oak Hill might be flirting with the TVC. I'm assuming Waverly wants to prepare better for D4 competition while Oak Hill wants an easi...

How's this for an SOC II-OVC merger in football. Re: OVC Expansion

So, I am going to take it that no news means no takers. OVC can still break into divisions but would make those final non conf games hard to find. If no one is added, I think the best option is to split into 2 divisions as such. Fairland Gallia Academy Ironton Portsmouth Chesapeake Dawson-Bryant Ro...

Re: Is ovc expanding?

If River Valley doesn't want to join and Jackson is pursued, how about Point Pleasant for the 2nd large school while Oak Hill and Symmes Valley joins the smaller schools.

Re: Is ovc expanding?

Is the OVC just being preemptive in preparation for Ironton's eventual departure? I think this is an attempted compromise between Ironton and OVC, so Ironton doesn't have to schedule South Point, Chesapeake and Rock Hill in football, but can keep rest of their sports in OVC where they belong. Indep...

Re: Football Playoff Format Changes Being Considered By OHSAA

I'd be for expansion only if we went back to 6 divisions. Keep D1 as is with 8 teams per region, but increase it from 72 to 80 schools. Then there would be 31-32 teams per region for D2-D6, and the top 12 teams would make the playoffs in those division. It'd be playoff expansion, but it wouldn't be ...

Re: What "IF"...

What if, when Ironton left the SEOAL, the OVC had done a Notre Dame in college sports and allowed Ironton to place all but football in their conference and kept football independent. Football would have had to play 2 members a season. How would it have impacted Ironton and the OVC? Would River Valle...

Re: Best fit for the TVC- Fort Frye or Oak Hill

I may be the only one thinking this, but I think both schools are great fits for the TVC. I just think because of location, Oak Hill should be the 8th team to the Ohio, and if the TVC decided to keep the 9 team format for the Hocking, Fort Frye would be the team to replace Wahama. I know Fort Frye c...

Re: Wahama leaving TVC?

Now the question is does the Hocking look to add Fort Frye to go back to 9, focus on adding an 8th team for the Ohio (I can see Fort Frye, Oak Hill, and Gallia Academy as good candidates), or both.

Re: Wahama leaving TVC?

Yep. Joining the LKC (Little Kanawha Conference) in WV beginning in 2020-2021 school year. Informed the TVC at the recent conference meeting. Does that league have two parts to that league? Some schools would be over 3 hours away. From a quick google search, there is 2 divisions and 4 pods total wh...
