Re: Potential new stadium in Marietta ?
Behind the high school does make sense. Do you know if they own the property that is behind the practice field ? I remember it being hilly and maybe a communications tower there too. Sorry. It's been 40 years LOL ! They have a huge parcel, but the land NW of the practice field is owned by the Board...

Re: River Valley Club Soccer begins!
"RVSC" is a Parkersburg-based youth soccer club that's been around for several years: https://www.facebook.com/RVSCRiverValleySoccerClub/
I'm guessing River Valley's soccer program is using the word "club" here to make it clear that it's not an official school athletic program?

Re: Potential new stadium in Marietta ?
That's exciting. The article says "behind the high school." If they can level off enough space and connect the two parking lots it makes sense to me. I doubt their soccer programs would be interested in moving operation out of Devola though

Re: Gene Smith to retire in 2024
They'll miss him. He's ran one of the biggest and most profitable athletic departments in the country since I was on campus (a little white ago!). The general public just sees him as the football coach's boss, but there are 35 other varsity sports he manages... and judging just on football alone, Oh...

Re: Friday Night Doubleheaders
I don't think it would be impactful for getting football spectators interested in soccer or vice versa. They're just two very different cultures—among the adults. I would like to see more coordination among the athletes though. Maybe soccer players volunteer to pick-up trash in the bleachers after f...

Re: Scrimmages
That's a great result over Bloom Carroll. When I saw Athens in Columbus for EIS they didn't look anything like last season, but I'm guessing they have several players on vacation.

Re: What's going on at Warren?
Until recently, the best athletes didn’t play period so it was never an issue. [...] This is a good point. Warren has a history over the recent 20 years of a lot of good athletes skipping out on football or transferring to play across the river. I think they were headed in a positive direction over...

Re: Belpre Soccer
I can see the very small schools like New Boston or Clay being coed, but there is no reason for it anywhere else. Even Valley and South Webster SHOULD have girls teams, but nobody is making a push for it. Probably the same thing at Belpre. They should be all girls teams at those schools that have f...

Re: Belpre Soccer
Is this program remaining co-ed for the foreseeable future? It's hard to believe they don't have enough interest for two teams, considering Belpre is home to the largest youth rec league in the area

Re: What's going on at Warren?
No dog in the fight...have no idea what's goin on at Warren... but choices made have consequences.. an kids that leave a program don't "deserve" everyone's full support.. they don't deserve disrespect but this situation still (and will always) rub some people the wrong way.. and you can't...

Re: River Valley getting soccer?
I think for D2 and smaller schools, soccer absolutely hurts football. Not immediately, but parents often make choices in what to invest their kids' time in based on their future high school opportunities. It's not that football players will quit to play soccer. It's about the future classes: the kid...

Re: NBA
Denver feels like they came out of nowhere, but they've had some bad luck with injuries in recent years and Jokic is a much more complete (and fit) player now. They've been the best in the league all season, and probably longer.
Boston clearly has some leadership deficiencies

Re: Soccer Officiating Class
I recommend taking the USSF Grassroots (international and youth soccer) training too. It saves time with OHSAA's bridge course that can be taken virtually, if you already have a USSF certification. It's also a good idea to keep a USSF badge anyway so you can work games in the Spring. Youth tournamen...

Re: A Look At OHSAA Failed Referendum Item 1B
I don't see the logic in allowing private school and homeschool kids to cross-over into neighboring districts, but not public school kids.
