Re: Region 23: 6. Barnesville (8-1) @ 3. Chesapeake (9-1)

Also, lots of restaurants just a mile down the road from the stadium on the Ohio side.

Re: Congrats IRONTON & CHESAPEAKE

Looks like Chesapeake will host Barnesville on Friday Night. I think Ironton will play on Saturday.

Re: WK8 Coal Grove (5-1) @ Ironton (4-3)

I have a feeling that both teams will score the same amount of touchdowns. I think this game comes down to the extra point. If Coal Grove can score first and put 8 on the board, will Ironton chase those points, or settle for a guaranteed one? Also, look for a field goal attempt or two from Ironton i...

Re: OVC 2016

This Conference keeps getting better. It looks like we could have three teams in the playoffs again this year.

I think the different styles of play make it a lot of fun to watch.

Re: Ironton 28 Chesapeake 12

Ironton is better than the haters were hoping, and Chesapeake is not going to be 10-0. I wonder if this game has the same outcome if the temperature is in the 90's instead of the low 60's? Anyway, it doesn't matter. Congratulations to the Tigers on a well deserved win, and the Panthers could still b...

Re: WK6 Fairland (0-5) at Gallia Academy (0-5)

I'm actually kind of excited for this game. I don't think either team has a common opponent, and they have both played some pretty good teams. This could actually be an entertaining game to watch. Both teams should play hard. Besides, The Old Coal Bucket is on the line! I LOVE the traveling trophies...

Re: WK6 Chesapeake (5-0) @ Ironton (2-3)

Last week Chesapeake showed that could play 4 quarters against a quality opponent. Ironton has definitely had the tougher non-conference schedule. There is no common opponent to compare each team. Also, this game will be at the Tank and the temp will be much cooler, which is are both advantages for ...

Re: WK 6 Portsmouth (4-1) @ Coal Grove (3-1)

The next two weeks could make or break the Trojans' turnaround season. Also, Coal Grove has a lot to play for, as a win would give a lot of playoff points. In fact, I would think the winner of this game will definitely play in week 11. So it's kind of like a playoff game. I look for a hard hitting, ...

Re: Game of the Week Coal Grove (3-0, 1-0) @ Chesapeake (4-0,1-0)

Here is the newspaper story from the Ironton Tribune from last year's game between these two teams. This game on Friday looks to be as close to a rematch from last year as a high school game could be. And who knows, these teams could meet again in the playoffs? "COAL GROVE — Big plays and big d...

Re: Game of the Week Coal Grove (3-0, 1-0) @ Chesapeake (4-0,1-0)

Defense, Big Plays and Turnovers will be the key to this game. Defense: The Hornets must contain the outside speed of the Panthers. The Panthers will have to tackle and force Coal Grove to Punt. Big Plays: The Panthers can strike at any time and can score from anywhere on the field. Coal Grove has t...

Re: Week 5 OVC Coal Grove (3-0, 1-0) @ Chesapeake (4-0,1-0)

In 1936, two old friends, Coal Grove Hornets Coach Paul (Pat) Patterson and Chesapeake Coach Emerson (Tip) Woods made a friendly wager. The winning team would receive The Little Brown Jug and keep possession of the Jug until beaten by the other team. The Hornets won that first battle for the Jug 7-...

Re: Week 5 OVC Coal Grove (3-0, 1-0) @ Chesapeake (4-0,1-0)

Here are some logistics and other background to this game for any out of towners who may show up for this one. First, go to Casa Grande Mexican Restaurant, in Burlington about a mile down the road or one of the many restaurants across the river in Huntington, WV. Second, parking is sometimes availab...
