Re: Can Ironton Go All Season Without A Single Win?

I agree going to the ovc is embarrassing for the Ironton sports program. I do believe Ironton fans have mocked this conference for years bc no one in this conf (even when ovc schools had decent teams) would NEVER play Ironton except So Point on occasion. This is a sad time in Ironton athletics. The...

Re: OHSAA approves 22 game schedule beginning in 2012

If anything, they should have shortened the season by 2 games, not lengthen it. Basketball is already about a 6 month season, not counting summer stuff. To top it off, they haven't bumped up the start date. This is the proverbial straw stirring the drink. Northern coaches want more games and this is...

Re: AP Poll 1/31/2011

Why do people get so bent out of shape over the AP Poll? It means literally nothing. Name recognition and well-known coaches get votes. It's the high school version of the BCS.

Re: Low scoring games

I agree with JeepMadness to a point. I don't think AAU is the culprit though. I think it is just the nature of kids these days. No, not all, but instead of being the exception to the rule, kids not working on their game is the norm now. Let's face it, we live in a ME society where people want things...

Re: Blevins from Manchester

People just don't realize how good you have to be to play college basketball at the NAIA level either. Most players on those rosters were stars on their high school teams and probably averaged anywhere from 15-30 ppg. Get out and watch some ball sometime, people throw D1 around like scholarships are...

Re: What does Free Lunch have to do with athletics?

^^^^ 29% of families living in the Piketon school district are living below the poverty level. This comes from the 2000 census, probably going to be higher from the 2010 census. 85% are on free and reduced lunches. Here are the numbers for free and reduced lunch in our basic area per Ohio Dept Of E...

How long did Yates stay in this game? I'd say, if they won by thirty plus, he probably didn't play much in the fourth did he?

Re: Top 5 Coaches in Southern Ohio

While I agree that all mentioned are very good coaches, let's not forget, the teams they coach were successful for the most part before these guys took over. Talent typically wins, these guys mentioned are never short on it.

Re: Div.3 Sectionals at Waverly

Ironman, Northwest will have that coveted swing vote in this years election. Last time I checked, 5 SVC teams, 5 SHL teams and 1 SOC team. In the past, the SVC has been able to move people around, but not now! lol Yeah, they have the swing vote and no help to go with it. Wouldn't suprise me if the ...

Re: Burg @ NorthWest 1/22/10

Difference in the game.... Burg 13/17 from the line Northwest 27/33 from the line NW took 16 more free throws than the Burg and made 14 more then the Pirates. Was it questionable officiating or just a product of having to foul at the end of regulation as well as overtime? Did either team press? Tha...

Doesn't matter if the clock was stopped or not. Both coaches have to agree. The head coach and A.D. informed the officials ahead of time and everything was ready.

The major roads aren't the problem. Getting kids safely to and from their respective schools with the condition of secondary roads is.

Re: Valley @ Northwest 1-6-10

You can try to justify this any way you want, the fact remains that a high school kid's major accomplishment was put on the back burner due to a coach not wanting to stop the game for a few seconds. The argument that this would have somehow shifted momentum is proposterous. Both teams would have had...

Re: WHO BELIEVES THERE SHOULD BE CO-NATIONAL CHAMPIONS.

After watching the Boise/TCU game the other night, in my opinion, neither team is elite. Both beat subpar teams in the regular season. The one semi-impressive win was Boise over Oregon but that was game #1 in Boise. Oregon would beat them at this point, I feel.

Re: Ineligible Players

Players must establish themselves in a district before high school or have a residency in the district of attendance in which they MUST live. Gone are the days (supposedly) of having a p.o. box or a "guardian liason".
