Re: Some histories updated

Even with internet resources, I cannot imagine your time traveling and time spent in libraries scrolling through fiche and old books. Research done the old way. Are you based out of Huntington or elsewhere in WV? Bluefield, WV. But I have friends in low places! Over the years I spent a few Friday n...

Re: Some histories updated

I did see the Minford book. I really admire the author. I did not see any others because I did not see your message until after I had left. I have added Green Local and Symmes Valley. There are a few scores missing but I should get them tomorrow in Ashland. They have the Ironton paper on film in th...

Re: Some histories updated

Thanks for doing this Football Historian. How do you get the scores? I have been doing this for 14 years. I have a subscription to Newspapers.com. This allows me access to the Saturday state wide scores in WV, Ohio, Virginia, PA and other states. I also go to libraries. I photograph and scan presea...

Re: Ironton's Program - History

I have finished my preliminary work on Ironton History. There is work to do on early seasons but the record I have so far is: 691-366-47. I have Bob Lutz with 362 wins and I know this does not match what others have. The only thing that I can think off of the top of my head is that the 1978 Logan ga...

Re: Interesting Ancient History Regarding Ironton and Portsmouth Football

Football Historian - I would love to talk to you about the "set up" of your website. I will shoot you a PM. I have large databases of many former SEOAL schools as well as others in SE Ohio. I also have a very detailed spreadsheet of ever Ohio playoff game ever played. Thanks. I tried to s...

Re: Interesting Ancient History Regarding Ironton and Portsmouth Football

BTW. Portsmouth's football history is now posted on my website. http://www.fourseasonsfootball.com/ Click on the WV icon and scroll down to the section that I sat up for Ohio. It is the only one there so far but I am working on Ironton now. I am sure it is incomplete for several seasons before 1914....

Re: Interesting Ancient History Regarding Ironton and Portsmouth Football

There were two games scheduled between Ironton and Portsmouth in 1944. The first game was a tie 6-6. The second game was not played. My experience is that the persons that do histories only do their own school and they tend to overlook forfeits either on purpose or they are unaware. I did Williamson...

Re: Interesting Ancient History Regarding Ironton and Portsmouth Football

I am the person that made that post. I traveled to Portsmouth December 23 to the library. I was able to confirm that Portsmouth had to forfeit their first 9 games in 1944 due to an ineligible player. They held him out of the last game vs Ashland and won that game so it was not forfeited. It was dete...
