Re: 2017-18 Season ... Who are the top teams in each league ?

I don't believe and I know others don't truthfully believe there is door to door recruiting going on, but texts messages, chance conversations at AAU tournaments, and families talking to friends of the program most certainly happens. I'm not blaming Oak Hill or any other school, but these things are...

Re: 2017-18 Season ... Who are the top teams in each league ?

I have no specific input on those programs and the kids that have transferred into those schools. I see it outside of the SOC as well... Chillicothe and Piketon are both benefiting from transfers, Athens was hurt years back when the Watson kid left, there have been numerous kids in Lawrence county h...

Re: 2017-18 Season ... Who are the top teams in each league ?

This is for an entirely different topic, but reading through this trying to see who the better teams are and the majority of the conversations turns to transfers. The AAU stuff and kids moving here and there isn't new, but it makes you appreciate the teams that are successful with home grown talent....

Re: SOC2 WK8 Wheelersburg (7-0) @ Minford (3-4)

The Burg leaving the SOC is kind of funny to me. As others have mentioned, scheduling plays a huge part in things, but in reality you're letting the micro outweigh the macro. Burg is dominant... I mean they are a great football team. No one questions it and no one doubts their ability. But if you lo...

Re: Jr. High Week 5

It would be hard to say in football, but Valley's 7th grade has never been beat by West in hoops when both have full squads. Although the Sandlin kid is the best player on the floor.

Re: Portsmouth 35 Valley 7

I think they only started 3 seniors (FB, OT, DT) and a 4th and 5th senior rotated at WR and DE. Most of the offensive line was making their first start, 2 sophomores, 2 juniors, 1 senior. Valley is composed of mostly sophomores and juniors, I think they comprise almost 75% of the entire team.

Re: 2017 Schedules/Conference/Team Links

This is a very helpful thread... I think making it a sticky at the top of football page would keep it from getting lost.

Agree. 10 straight wins over the Burg would get rough.
He's talking current. Cupboards empty, but basketball is definitely a cyclical sport.
Cupboard isn't close to empty... It's young but it isn't empty.

Re: Minford vs Valley

If Valley were healthy I could see this being a game. I was at the bonfire last night and I'm pretty sure that Valley is without their best player.

Re: WK9 Valley (0-8) @ Wheelersburg (8-0)

Sometimes things just don't seem fair. Valleys not that bad this year. Nine of the ten teams they play having winning records and three are 8-0 with Waverly coming in at 7-1. The only team they play with a loosing record is West and they're solid. Realistically West could be 6-2 with just a little ...

Re: WK9 Valley (0-8) @ Wheelersburg (8-0)

I see a lot of conflicting statements regarding why Valley is down, but the truth is everyone that has watched Valley football saw this coming. The juniors and seniors have just struggled athletically across the board. They struggled in JR high, they struggled in JV. They are lacking varsity experie...

Re: Waverly 47 Valley 0

newbie, I think you are misinterpreting what I said and I'm sorry for that. As a long time Valley supporter the point of my post had more to do with those that take plays off and blame coaching than it does with "lumping" groups of players. As I said above, the players who worked and were ...

Re: WK6 Waverly (5-0) @ Valley (0-5)

I think Scott would probably disagree with you, Red97. I also know that Darren coached from the booth during the playoffs and was involved in the game planning, he just wasn't on the field. How many state titles do you count in SOC II or all of southern Ohio for that matter? Do your kids a favor. Go...

Re: WK6 Waverly (5-0) @ Valley (0-5)

I would hope the system doesn't change. It's been as successful as anyone for a number of years. How easily you guys forget. Winningest coach in SOC history. Most coaching playoff wins in conference history. And it's all of a sudden the systems fault. Hilarious! There's no struggle with the Jr high ...

Re: WK6 Waverly (5-0) @ Valley (0-5)

Those garbage time minutes would have turned this around? I've watched Valley football for 3 decades and Darren was never one to run up the score or not get kids time. There's nothing relevant to this. The 3-4 games last year that Valley had big leads, I saw fumbled snaps, missed blocks, miscommunic...

Re: WK6 Waverly (5-0) @ Valley (0-5)

At some point you are what you are... I'll take 25+ years of coaching and talent evaluation over message board fodder. If the seniors this year, asked to play JV and were told no then the reason is abundebtly clear... They had 2 years of JV experience along with 10 Friday's to prove they could play....

Re: WK6 Waverly (5-0) @ Valley (0-5)

Same group of players has not won in JR high or JV. The same system is being ran. The same kids that haven't tackled, blocked, ran, caught, passed in 4 or 5 years are doing exactly what they always have done. I don't understand why it would change all of a sudden. The opportunity to get on the field...

Re: WK6 Waverly (5-0) @ Valley (0-5)

Waverly has a very good team and will win this game by 4-5 TDs. Some of Valley's younger players are getting better but #22 being hurt is a huge blow to the struggling Valley offense. One thing that blows my mind about message board guy is how they suddenly become smarter and more aware of personnel...
