Re: Norm Persin to retire after this season

As a former player of his, it wasn't always fun having him as a coach, but I have the ultimate respect for him.

I seriously doubt he is coming back, his health is an issue too.

Re: Ironton Vs Spring Valley WV?

Because SV has triple the amount of students. Why does it need to be a subject? I doubt they would "easily" win, but okay, cool, SV with triple the amount of boys would win. Combine Ironton, CG, and Chesapeake, probably be a different story. It isn't a fair comparison because WV football,...

Re: Ironton Vs Spring Valley WV?

This discussion has gotten ridiculous. The original question was Ironton vs SV. The answer is simple, SV would beat Ironton easily. Somehow, the discussion drifted to WV teams vs Ohio teams. You’re talking about a state will 2million people vs one with 10 million people. Of course there are better ...

1998 if 44-30 is beating them to death, then yes
Wasn't it 30 something to a little at half?

Re: Ironton Vs Spring Valley WV?

Spring Valley is a lineman factory. They produce D1 talent about every year. They had an OSU commit last year but switched to VA Tech and they have another being looked at by OSU this year. Someone said they had over 1000 kids but I think that's boys and girls total 9-12 A factory? Seriously? They ...

Re: Playoffs and the OVC

I don't have a problem with Norm read my post. I have went and watch OH play when the Peake wasnt . I shake hands with him anytime I see him. I like Norm but at The Peake Ryan is the coach right now. Let's just drop it and keep this as a football forum. Fair enough. I like Davis, always have, good ...

Re: Playoffs and the OVC

That's were it should be. Avalanche doesn't care for Davis. Literally have said he's a good coach like a dozen times now. The true mark of success is can you sustain it over a long period of time. It is obvious you have an axe to grind with Norm. Saying your his friend is probably not true either, ...

Re: Playoffs and the OVC

This time of year somebody always wants to rag on Ryan Davis, bring back Norm, the Peake dies schedule anybody. Some people are never satisfied. Under Ryan Davis 2008 district semis 2009 district semis 2010 state semis 2011 regional final 2012 regional semis 2013 district semis 2014 district semis ...

Re: Playoffs and the OVC

Norm quit playing Wheelersburg in the regular season. Tom Barrick owned NJP. Ashland and Russell were right across the river. Don’t recall them on the Panthers schedule. Ryan Davis alway plays stiff competition. His scheduling philosophy and Norm’s are eons apart. Norm has a State Title .... Davis ...

Re: Ironton Vs Spring Valley WV?

Nothing bad about Ironton but spring Valley isn’t the same team they were in the 90’s or early 2000’s. Spring Valley is a legit DI team that plays great football these days and would be too much for Ironton year after year!! Nothing bad about who Ironton plays these days being D-V team, maybe play ...

Re: Ironton Vs Spring Valley WV?

Those teams should pound Ironton , like to see them Play Ohio teams with same number of students. Was someone questioning those D1 programs and their quality of play? I thought the discussion was concerning Ironton playing Cabell County schools. Somehow it got turned into Wv or Ky schools playing D...

Re: Ironton Vs Spring Valley WV?

What do you all think? think it would be a good one to add to the schedule in the future. They're making a lot of noise. They THROTTLED Ashland, Kentucky 35 - 0 this year. Not that long ago, people in southern Ohio mocked Kentucky and WV football but lately, they've been some of the toughest of opp...

Re: The Perfect Conference for Southern Ohio/Tri State

these amuse me. Agreed. What benefit is it for a school with 600ish kids to go play Spring Valley, Midland, and Huntington High? Seriously? Where is the competitive equity in that? Just because Ironton can compete with those schools, doesn't mean it is good for all of their sports. Those schools ar...

Re: Playoffs and the OVC

Rosco, you better check your records. Not playing up regular season how about in the last 10 years Cincinnati Anderson, West Jefferson, Chillocothe, Westerville North, Toledo Libby just to name a few. Norm is gone Ryan is the coach, I know him well and he is a great coach. This should have been on ...

Re: Playoffs and the OVC

AD’s and coaches should examine the Chesapeake basketball scheduling philosophy during the Norm Persin era. It is the perfect example of what happens when a good program fails to challenge itself out of conference. Great regular season records but folded year after year in the district or regional ...

Re: Playoffs and the OVC

I think you would have seen a completely different OVC had Portsmouth, Ironton, and Gallia joined back in the 90's or early 2000's. Chesapeake was very good in the late 90's to mid-2000's, and having all three of the others, would have made the OVC as good a conference as you'd find in the area. Tho...

Re: Ironton boys basketball job?

They are doing away with the full time AD position. It will most likely be a supplemental. Really no need for a full time AD in the VIC. From what I understand LaFon did move to the central office. All good moves Bad move imo. Schools need a full-time AD if you have over 500 students. That job is n...
