Post by LucasDavenport »

Beaver Eastern, Paint Valley and Huntington Ross all D4 next year. Also Lucasville Valley And Crooksville Wow.

Grandview Heights dropping to D4 as well should make The Regional tougher.

Coal Grove back to D3.

Zane Trace D3

Westfall D3

Those are the changes I see.

Really expect Lucasville Valley to make some noise next few years now that they D4. Zane Trace down to D3 will be interesting as well. Coal Grove goes back up to D3, and Western Latham and West Union both stay in D3 after barely miss dropping to D4.*

D2 lost 2 and gained 0

Moves total from 20 to 18

Possibly 1 District instead of 2.

Only 1 District champ in baseball this year in D2. 18 teams. Close to the same cutoffs.

There was only 1 district champ in baseball in 2019 because it was our turn to send only 1 to regional.
I believe it is set up on a rotation involving central district teams. This year we had Licking Valley, last time we had a Central was 4 years ago (Big Walnut). Next year is should go back to 2 East, 2 Southeast

Considering what Zane Trace has coming back, they could very well be the best D3 team in the SE district. Of course any SE D3 team that makes the regionals will have to contend with the Central District representative, either in the semis or the final. With ZT's drop to D3, SE D2 just might make the two regional slots more competitive, because the Pioneers would be a heavy favorite on one side of the bracket. I look for Jackson to make a strong push for a regional berth in D2.

Thanks TriStateYouthSports for the great info!

D2 still getting 2 district Champs is huge.

East and Central Districts must have less than 18 teams.

Regional representatives used to be figured by an equation x/# of SE teams = 16/# of state teams

X/18 = 16/200 (approximation)

That number would be compared to the other 5 districts and Regional Representatives would be decided.

If 2 districts had the same number then a coin flip would take place.

Also did anyone realize that South Gallia’s CB number is the highest in the SE district?

I would have lost that bet.

That's tough for CG. Not sure where CB numbers came from as I believe none if those numbers are athletes.

CB numbers come only from the athletes in the HS basketball program. They come from varsity, JV, and freshman. So, the numbers for CG had to come from athletes.

These are not the breakdown for 2020. These are the breakdown for 2019. Yes on the OHSAA website it comes up under 2020 Statewide Tourney Brackets but the breakdowns are for the 2019 season.

I can't say that I know the rules but if it is only counting kids playing basketball we would have to have 5 kids that open enrolled in CG. I can think of one freshman who came to CG in 8th grade and one that moved into CG but didn't play basketball in 8th grade due to ineligible. Oh well the rules are the rules.

So I did the math- this is the region breakdown for basketball in 2020 that I came up with
Division IV
Central 19- 2 to region
East 16- 1 to region
Northeast 35- 3 to region
Northwest 67- 5 to region
Southeast 24- 2 to region
Southwest 38- 3 to region

Division III
Central 22- 2 to region
East 17- 2 to region
Northeast 52- 4 to region
Northwest 36- 3 to region
Southeast 27- 2 to region
Southwest 41- 3 to region

Division II
Central 22- 2 to region
East 19- 2 to region
Northeast 63- 5 to region
Northwest 32- 3 to region
Southeast 18- 1 to region
Southwest 41- 3 to region

Division I
Central 49- 4 to region
Northeast 74- 6 to region
Northwest 20- 2 to region
Southwest 52- 4 to region

Division II should be a dogfight with a lot of parity on paper for the one district champion. That's a nice rundown on the math bsee.
