Lucasville Valley Indians - History question

Post by loganlocos »

Where did the Indians play their games before their new/current stadium opened? I believe I read that the current stadium opened for the 2000 football season.

Can anyone help me out?

They played behind the current middle school which was their former HS which is directly across from the Prison

Watch the videos on the Easter Riot, you will see the facilities.

Yes played behind the current middle school. But that school is not directly across from the prison. Those facilities are the current high school and the elementary school. The current middle school (old high school) is across from the apple farm on 728. The current high school and elementary school opened the same year as the riot, 93 I believe. The opening of the schools was actually delayed because of the riot.

Also when the current stadium opened it was a grass field. The turf wasn’t installed until the 2004 season.

All of this is correct.

The facility at the middle school opened in the 2nd year of football at Valley (1959).

Thanks guys! Knew there were some folks here who could help.

I didn't realize it was that old.

Yes it’s that old. I think they still look good for their age. They have been very well taken care of.

Yes.

It opened several days after then end of the prison riot. The stadium opened in 2000.

The last game played at the old field was the 1999 regional quarterfinal matchup with Liberty Union who was led by current West Head Coach, Ben Johnson.

That's cool. I think the first game in the new stadium was against West.

I've heard only great things about Valley's Stadium. It's great that a small community can have a great facility they can take pride in.

Lucasville has the best small town football stadium in Southeast Ohio. Hands down!

I was on the new by-pass recently. Is that the stadium I was able to see in the distance?

yeah, it should be able to be seen from the bypass. I haven't been on the new road yet, but that should be what you are seeing.
