This year will start with a lot of pressure for the Buckeyes, as they start the 2018-19 hockey season as the preseason #1 overall team in the nation, getting 18 first place votes. They ended last season as the #3 overall team, and return nearly everyone while adding a few stellar pieces as well.

They will get started this weekend as they travel to Arizona State for a Friday/Saturday matchup. Both games will face-off at 10:05pm.

To open the season, the #1 ranked Buckeyes headed to Tempe to face-off with Arizona State. Although it wasn't the score they were looking for, OSU ultimately won 3-2. At the 15:02 mark of the first period is when the only goal of the period came, Freddy Gerard scored the first Buckeye goal of the year. Arizona State was able to tie the game just 50 seconds into the second period on a power play goal. The Buckeyes were able to add a flurry of goals a little later in the period, as they were able to score two consecutive power play goals to take a 3-1 lead. The Sun Devils knocked a goal in with 2 seconds remaining in the period to draw a little closer. A large amount of saves highlighted the third period, as neither team was able to strike the back of the net.

They will conclude their Tempe trip on Saturday, as they two teams face-off again tomorrow at 10pm.

For the top ranked Buckeyes, they ended their first weekend of competition on a high note by winning at Arizona State 3-0 to earn a series sweep. As time was running out in the first period, and a scoreless game, Ohio State's Ronnie Hein dumped one in the back of the net for the Buckeyes first lead. The entire second period went scoreless for both teams. Then, at the 13:26 mark in the third period, Mason Jobst was tripped up on a breakaway to earn a penalty shot, that he didn't miss on, advancing the Buckeyes lead to 2-0. The final goal of the game came in garbage time, as Arizona State emptied their net to try and get some goals, and OSU was able to take advantage to put some icing on the cake, when Ronnie Hein scored his second goal of the game.

Up next for OSU, they will host UMass this coming Friday and Saturday.

It was a mixed bag for the top-ranked Buckeyes this weekend, as they split their series with a solid UMass team in Columbus. The first game (Friday night), got way out of hand for the Buckeyes as they gave up a flurry of goals, losing 6-3. The second game (today), they came back out on the ice and played a much better defensive game, defeating the Minutemen 3-1.

They have another tough opponent next weekend, as they host Bowling Green on Friday, and travel to Bowling Green on Saturday.

With a 1-1 weekend against a good UMass team, the Buckeyes have dropped all the way from #1 with a commanding number of first place votes, all the say to #4.

They will play #15 Bowling Green this weekend.

A hungry Bowling Green Falcons team entered Value City Arena on Friday looking for a win over a top 5 team. They did just that, as they steamrolled the Buckeyes, 8-2. With that loss, the Buckeyes fall to 3-2, while BG improves to 5-1. Early in the season, Bowling Green has certainly impressed and are quickly moving up in the national rankings.

This series is a home-and-home. Instead of two games at one location, Friday was in Columbus, and they will wrap up the weekend series on Saturday in Bowling Green.

It turned out to not be such a great weekend for the Buckeyes. In their second game against Bowling Green of the weekend, they ended up in a 2-2 tie after overtime. The Buckeyes scored just 6:45 into the game on a goal from Carson Meyer. No more goals were scored in the game until 1:17 into the third period when BG knotted it up. The Falcons then took a 2-1 lead at the 15:10 mark of the third period. But, less than two minutes later, OSU was able to score again and tie it up off the stick of Freddy Gerard.

Nobody was able to score for the rest of regulation. Then, they went into a sudden death overtime where neither team was able to score again, resulting in a tie.

Ohio State will travel to Notre Dame next weekend to play two game, Friday and Saturday.

For the second straight week, OSU has dropped 3 spots in the rankings, down to #7. Their opponent from this past weekend, Bowling Green, moved up to #9.

A tough weekend is ahead as Notre Dame is ranked #5.

Opening up their Big Ten schedule last night, the Buckeyes picked up a huge win over #5 Notre Dame 1-0. Goalkeeper Sean Romeo saved all 23 shots for the game. The only goal of the game for either team came on a first period power play of the stick of OSU's Mason Jobst.

They will wrap up the weekend series in South Bend today at 7:30pm.

In the weekend series at #5 Notre Dame, the Buckeyes dropped the second of two on Saturday night, after winning on Friday night. They fell to the Irish 2-1. OSU got out to a lead at the 3:25 mark of the second period with the game's first goal. Then, the Irish were able to score two consecutive goals, one in the second and one in the third, to take the victory and earn a series split.

Next weekend, the Buckeyes will play two games at Colgate in Hamilton, NY.

The Buckeyes snagged the first game of the weekend in NY, as they defeated Colgate 3-0. OSU spread their scoring out quite evenly throughout the game, scoring a single goal in each of the three periods. Ronnie Hein scored the first goal of the game. Then, Tanner Laczynski proceeded to score the final two goals.

They'll wrap up their weekend series today at 4pm.

Yesterday, the Buckeyes completed a weekend sweep on the road against Colgate, by winning 1-0. By shutting them out again, this is the first time since 2011 that OSU has had two shut outs in one weekend. The only goal of the game didn't come until about halfway through the third period but that's all they needed. At the 10:08 mark of the third period, OSU's Dakota Joshua slid one in past the keeper for the win.

Next up, Ohio State will host Wisconsin for a two game series this coming Friday and Saturday.

OSU rolled to a victory over a receiving votes Wisconsin team on Friday, 4-0. The Buckeyes wasted little time jumping out to a lead, scoring twice in the first period. They then proceeded to score in each of the ensuing periods as well.

They'll play the final game of their weekend series tomorrow at 5pm.

The Buckeyes completed a pretty dominant weekend by finishing off the sweep over Wisconsin, winning 3-1 on Saturday. OSU held the Badgers scoreless until the third period. That Wisconsin goal ended the Buckeyes program record for consecutive scoreless defensive minutes at 231 minutes and 42 seconds.

This weekend is next up for Ohio State, as they host a two game series against Penn State.

Ohio State trailed early on in this one in Minneapolis, as the Gophers were the first on the board. OSU then scored two consecutive goals to take a lead late in the third period. Looking like they were going to take the victory, but Minnesota scored with just 41 seconds remaining to tie and sent it to overtime. After overtime, the two teams remained scoreless. After the first OT, they've implemented 3x3 on play, in which the Buckeyes scratched out a victory to earn a point in conference play.

The two teams will play again on Saturday at 5pm.

Game 2 of their series with Minnesota, yielded the exact same result for the Buckeyes. OSU and Minnesota were tied at 2-2 after overtime, then eventually earned a 3v3 win, picking up an extra point in the B1G standings.

Now, Ohio State will have several weeks off before they host a two-game series against Mercyhurst on December 28 and 29.

After nearly all of December off, the Buckeyes got back into action tonight against Mercyhurst at home, in their first game of a weekend double header. They were able to cruise to a 3-1 victory, as Mercyhurst never scored until there were 2 seconds left. Jobst, Miller and Pooley all scored a goal for OSU in this one.

They get back into action tomorrow at 8pm to wrap up their weekend series.

The Buckeyes wrapped up their weekend with a series sweep, by defeating Mercyhurst last night, 5-4. After nearly a month off, OSU showed a little bit of rust this weekend, but ultimately picked up wins in both games.

Ohio State is back in action next weekend, as they travel to East Lansing for a two game series against Michigan State.
