[quote="loganlocos"]Here's a look at the 10-12th graders who should compete for spots next fall:

Defense

Strong side End:
Kamryn Carter (Senior) played in relief of Henthorne here last fall (and at D-Tackle). Henthorne will be maybe the biggest miss from last years team. Carter recorded 11 tackles and 1 sack last season. Cymon Rooker (Senior) and Nick and Garrett Baker (Seniors) could emerge and compete for time as well.

D-Tackles (2):
Carter Hodson (Senior) returns after winning a spot early last season. Hodson recorded 26 tackles, two tackles for loss, and two sacks. Dakota Dement (Senior) also returns at the other D-Tackle spot. Dement recorded 25 tackles last season. Trevor Wyckoff (Sophomore), Carter, and Dakota Stiffarm (Senior) add depth. Jace Justice (Junior) could emerge at tackle as well.

Weak side End:
Sam Hall (Junior) emerged as a pass rushing force for the Chiefs here last fall, recorded a team high six tackles for loss and six sacks. The sophomore recorded 30 total tackles in 2016. Rooker and Trevor Wolfe (Junior) will add depth.

Outside Linebacker:
Tyler Cummin (Junior) had an outstanding sophomore season last year - despite playing most of the season with a cast on one arm. Cummin was second on the team with 65 tackles (27 solo) including 4 for loss and a team leading three pass breakups. Isaac Baron (Senior) played this role for the JV team before his injury.

Inside Linebackers (2):
The Chiefs return a plethora of talent and a lot of experience at inside linebacker. Sophomores Colton and Conner Ruff recorded 29 and 43 tackles respectively after sharing a starting job last season. Jeromy Weaver (Junior) hopes to overcome a recurring injury to contribute more here this fall. Shane Souders (Junior) started here against Dublin Jerome and played at ILB for the JVs.

Cornerbacks (2):
Casey Heft (Senior) and David Talbott (Senior) emerged as reliable players in the secondary at the end of last season. Heft emerged as a starter and recorded 16 tackles including two for loss and two PBUs. Talbott recorded 22 tackles and an interception. Landon Little (Junior) will compete for a starting job as well after recording 7 tackles, 1 PBU, and an interception last fall. Braeden Spatar (Sophomore) could add depth.

Strong Safety:
Aaron Jackson led the team with 77 tackles after emerging as the starter here in week two last season. A host of players will likely compete for this hybrid outside linebacker/defensive back role. Braeden Spatar (Sophomore) and Isaac Baron (Senior) could be top contenders. Don't rule out Heft or even one of the Ruff brothers to emerge here either.

Free Safety:
I expect sophomores Charlie Klineand Braeden Spatar to compete for the free safety role. Kline's size and athleticism could give him the edge to play like a centerfield free safety.

Wins vs Warren, Ross, Minford ,Athens and Meigs. Toss ups vs. Chilli, Sheridan and TV. Underdogs vs Scioto & Jerome.

Injuries for us or them could play into 5 of those games. 6-4 with a shot at 7-3.

Jerome killed us last year. I would assume Scioto is just about as good.
TV - loses 8 seniors to graduation. but they return the QB but loses the starting RB and the #1 WR.
Chilli - loses 13 seniors to graduation including a senior QB.
Sheridan - loses 10 to graduation including QB Dylan Dupler.
Athens - loses 13 to graduation including QB Brandon Sano.
Meigs - loses 9 to graduation including QB Cody Bartrum.

All three Dublin schools were excellent last year. Jerome beat Scioto 28-14 and Coffman beat Scioto 45-7.

So no doubt, both Dublin games start with the green teams as heavy favorites.

Teays Valley is 3-1 in four years against Logan. So its at best a toss up game.

Meigs without the elder Bartrum brother should favor Logan.

Sheridan beat Logan like a drum in the jamboree game last year and will be really tough match-up.

I think Chillicothe's quarterback (Maughmer) is back. He was REALLY good last year and they beat Jackson.

Athens had a lot of youth last year and I know they think they'll be better than last season. Should be another great match up.

Minford another young team. By this point I would think Logan should be the better football team, but injuries could level the playing field. Minford will hit hard and it will be a long road trip.

Hamilton Ross can't be worse than they were last season. They have good athletes. Will be the longest road trip in school history.

Warren was better than I thought and return quite a few kids. Still, I would expect a Logan win.

IMO - the baseline is 5 wins. Six or Seven a real possibility. Seven might get you into the playoff discussion.

LHS 72 -

Charlie Kline is back to handle the placekicking. Had a pretty stellar season for a freshman. Assume he can only get better.

Think he might get first crack at punting as well.

I believe this team should have more depth/experience which should mean an improvement on kick coverage.

Still, we'll have to wait and see.

Chiefs should be pretty tough this year from some early info I've been getting. Should be another win over the Bulldogs this season.
