He's a very good overall player, but didn't shoot much in the first half. The whole team plays great on the defensive end.

Never give up on a play. Inbounding player goes 40 feet for rebound and answered prayer

Is Jackson currently sitting at 8-11 with 3 games left to play against Wellston, Warren, and GAHS?

Definitely an improved team this year, and a bright future with so much young talent coming up through the program right now. Great job by Coach Morrow to start turning things around.

One reason or several for the turnaround?

Like to read positive comments for teams that compete and build programs.

For one the kids who are juniors were a very talented group and played a lot of competitive ball as youngsters. That group had the Carroll twins, Rebekah Green and I think even the Ward kid who plays at Oak Hill....that group is athletic and smart across the board in sports. Sophomore group has talented Donaldson kid who I could argue was as good as any kid in the program...when he was in 8th grade. The freshman class has been playing in the scioto county area from 3rd grade and played in a lot of tournaments as well. 8th grade followed that suit and has a couple nice size and talented players. 7th grade kept things going and have had teams playing around since 3rd grade...had 2 teams until 6th grade when they combined and put together a very talented team.

Keeping it going our 6th grade group through 3rd grade group has continued it. Some play in Chillicothe area league and some in Hocking area league. All are undefeated or just a loss or two. Not sure anyone has been within 20 of 3rd grade group.

Last year Jackson roundball took it another step creating a rec league dividing up all the players. It was tremendous for my son and several others with opportunities to improve in other areas of the court than they are used to.

Jackson has simply never been a basketball town. It's football always and baseball for last 20 years. Basketball is often the 3rd sport. Coaches have been better sharing athletes and encouraging to play other sports. Parents have been more realistic as well. I credit the kids in the junior class for setting the trend back to the 3 sport athletes and 9th grade class following suit.

Some of the key players on all of these teams will likely shift more towards football and some will drop out for playing time reasons...but Jackson is trending up very nicely. As soon as next year kids that fight for varsity time would've been key starters of teams of the last decade. It wasn't just a few years ago it was iffy if our JV team would score 20 points for an entire game. Jackson is definitely getting more athletes on the court, more stable coaching and a little better basketball breed of kids.

There are so many factors involved...but most are greatly favoring some really good upcoming Ironmen teams.

1. Jackson has finally settled on a coach. Coach Morrow is a young local guy who has the backing of the community. He will grow with the program and should get better each season. He could be a long term solution maybe coach for 20 years.

2. The talent pool is good . The senior class has provided some good leadership this season. The junior class is a pretty good class that has given Jackson 3 quality starters and good role players. The sophomore class is another solid class that had a winning record in 8th grade and has went on to have a real good jv season. The frehmen class is a good glass and have always had real good records , several of the feshmen have moved up to jv/varsity and gave good minutes . The rest of the feshmen are getting valuable minutes and also winning . The 8th grade group has done very well in junior high maybe posting a 25-5 record or so over two years and is A very athletic group. The 7th may be the best of the bunch, they are 15-0 and can go about 10 deep.

3. Jackson now has a good feeder program in place . Jackson started Travel basketball about 5 years ago and it has caught on with teams from 2nd - 6th grade . Jackson also has a good rec program with 200 kids playing .

4. The athletes seem to be staying with basketball and not quitting to focus on one sport. Even in the 0-1-2 win seasons Jackson had the talent in the halls to win 10 games but when the talent didn't play..

Jackson is fortunate to have a lot of good people in the community who for the most part sees the big picture and works together . Also the local business are awesome and the kids of Jackson never ever go without. If the kids buy into the program and don't worry about who's scoring or starting etc Jackson could make the convo in the coming years .

The depth too is much better . Only a few years ago players went straight to varsity duty . Now there is talent at each level . In the rough years I doubt we had a winning record at any level minus junior high.
Varsity is 8-10
Jv is 15-3
Freshmen is 13-3
8th is 12-3
7th is 15-0

May be off a little but the point is talent is being able to develop instead of being rushed into varsity duty.
