Post by noreply66 »

SB I...Max McGee had caught only four balls all season didn't think he would play in this game so he stayed out all night [coming in at 6:30 a.m.[,caught seven passes for 138 yds and two touchdowns. Packers 35 Kansas City 10

SB II...Green Bay head coach Vince Lombardi ended his tenure with the team by going out a winner and getting carried off the field after beating the Oakland Raiders 33 to 14

SB III...New York Jets , Matt Snell has 121 yards scored first TD of the game. Johnny Unitas out most of the year comes in to lead Baltimore to their only TD in the fourth quarter. Jet go in the record books as the first AFL team to beat a NFL team in a championship game.

SB IV....Two straight years the AFC comes through with a upset. Chiefs were a 12 point underdog. This made KC second trip to the big game. Minnesota held KC to 67 ground yards. had three ints and recovered 2 fumbles. Makes you wonder how KC won 23 to 7.

SB V Chuck Howley was the MVP...Rookie Kicker Jim O'Brien nailed a 32 yard FG with five second left to break a 13/13 tie to give Baltimore the win over Dallas. This also was the first SB to be played on artificial turf that had 11 combined turnovers.

SB VI Cowboys get it right this time. Duane Thomas 95 yards.. scored on a 3 yard run. Mike Ditka caught a TD pass. Cowboys had 252 rushing yards a SB record at the time.

SB VII Had the undefeated Miami Dolphins back after failing badly the year before. Jake Scott had two INTs against Washington. Miami was up 14/00 at the half and with a little over 5 minutes left in the game and Washington going for a score, Scott intercepted in the end zone to knock the wind out of the Redskins. Washington entered the game as the favorite did score a late TD on Mike Bass' 49 Yard fumble return.

SB VIII Miami didn't have to pass the ball in this game as it was the Larry Csonka bowl. He had 145 yards on 33 carries to give the Dolphins the win 24/07. Miami and Dallas have the only back to back SB wins at this point. Fran Tarkenton had a late 4-yard TD for Minnesota.

SB IX Steelers make their debut against The Vikings. Dwight White gave Pittsburg a 2 to 0 lead at the half with the SBs first safety. Franco Harris took over in the second half and finished with 158 yards on 34 carries out gaining Minnesota in the game. The Steel curtain held the Viking to just 119 total yards and 17 was on the ground.

SB X Lynn Swann is all that needs to be said. Only had four catches but they were dandies. Total yards.... 161 a average of 40 per catch

SB XI Oakland's 4th showing bring home the win. Fred Biletnikoff's four catches for 79 yards was used as a set up man for the running game that grinded out 266 yards in 52 attempts helped lead to three TDs. Oakland finish with 429 yards in a 32/14 win.

SB XII Dallas' defense shuts down Denver. Two great names for defenses Denver's Orange Crush and Dallas' Doomsday Defense. The Doomsday forced 8 turnovers. Randy White and Harvey Martin was named the first SBs Co-Defensive players. The Doomsday held former Dallas QB to 39 yards.

SB XIII Don't let the 35/31 score fool you.....The Steel Curtain and The Doomsday went after each other all day. The Qbs were sacked 9 times together in this game. The two did have a total of 7 TD passes.
