This may be the most ridiculous post I have ever seen! From a former coaches perspective, if you think this is the only time a coach is working on the program, you are WAY MISINFORMED! I don't care the quality of the coach... there is always field maintenance, parent meetings, practice and game prep, AD/administrator meetings, etc., etc., etc. If you think a high school softball coach in a small program makes $21 an hour, you need the job for a year! Regarding the whining about poor coaching (just "statingthefacts" so don't complain) APPLY FOR THE JOB!!!StateTheFacts wrote: ↑Wed Dec 19, 2018 9:59 amThe pay is quite well when you figure out the per hour pay scale. The regular season begins on February 19 and the tournament begins on May 4 according to the OHSAA. The amount a coach makes in based on the contract at various schools but I know I have a friend who started with 0 years of experience and made roughly $3,500 before Uncle Sam takes their part. If you figure you practiced or play a game every day Monday-Friday which we all know doesn't happen with the spring weather at a rate of 3 hour practice or game, which is a high estimate, then they are making $21 an hour which is more than most people make at their regular job. As to everyone getting analyzed or having every work on record that is also the same with your job or jobs of others. You are getting paid to coach and some getting paid to be there for their own kid's game and making roughly $21 an hour doing it. I am sure if these jobs would get posted in the newspaper then there would be knowledge pool of people applying for these jobs.ManitouDan2 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 18, 2018 10:01 am Parent coaching is always going a part of small conference softball. Not enough pay and rewards for non parents to volunteer 100's of hours to only have parents rip you to shreds on social media . Coaching has always been a tough gig , but in 2018-2019 its beyond brutal . Your every move analyzed . Every word is on record . And it only takes 1-2 malcontents to destroy what 70-80-90% agree with . Quite frankly unless they start paying better I think small schools will struggle to find anyone to coach , parent or non parent . Its just not rewarding, been there and done that .

Boo Sturgill (Wheelersburg) is the real deal... she can flat play!
Alexander (Piketon) is solid
Kellough (Huntington) P... is solid as well and will only get better!
(How could I go without mentioning and Huntington kid... LOL)
Haven't got to see as many play in the last few years, but hopefully after this year I can get back out to more games!

Whoever thinks you get $21/hour coaching in a high school sport such as softball, baseball, track etc in southern Ohio has never coached.

Alexander is one to watch on the mound from Piketon, other pitchers to watch will be claxon and Spence from burg,Robinson from waverly and Adkins from oak hill, top players to watch..brisker from oak hill is best shortstop I’ve seen play..great athlete with unreal power at plate, 20 hrs going into her jr year..her teammate Hughes is a beast at the plate also that put up 10hrs in freshman year..they are hands down best back to back hitters in soc2,sturgill from burg is a great player as well at the plate and in the field, these 3 will all be at the top for POY,(brisker and sturgill were both all-state last season),others to watch will be risner from burg, rice and Newman from northwest and wolfenbarker and Tolle from minford, they will all put up numbers also..I mainly watch soc2 so I haven’t seen everyone play in other leagues

Re: Top 10 players in SE Ohio...
Why would the edge go to Sturgill? Not disrespecting. Just saying, Both are great players as you said neck and neck. But to give an edge bc of the team and coach they play for sounds petty to me. Same logic most have about who doesn’t win the league no one on any other team deserve recognition. It’s crazy. Best players doesn’t necessarily play for “best” team.captainmorgan_ wrote: ↑Thu Jan 17, 2019 12:03 pm ive been saying it about hughes and sturgill for 2or 3 years now. both special ladies who would be neck and neck talent wise, i said in a previous post i give the edge to sturgill because she plays for the better team and coach.

In my opinion...Last years post season awards are irrelevant to this discussion. There are players who deserved more recognition than they got. It’s all political.

Re: Top 10 players in SE Ohio...
it is petty to give the edge to the player on the best team but isnt that how it works? ive been around hs and jrhigh sports for years coached and umpired both. we are petty. many agree that sturgill and hughes are very comparable by talent on the field but as i recall surgill was district poy with state awards, hughes got snubed right? if i was a betting man i would bet thats who the previous poster is talking about. some argue defensive postion, why does that matter. inall my years hughes is best hs third base ive seen! she can play ss with any of them too did it in jrhigh, saw several games back then. but im guessing not many teams are bunting againt her that changes some teams game? would be very curious to see stats for all o fthe players mentioned.
Re: Top 10 players in SE Ohio...
Huntington is my pick to win the SVC, and Kellough is the main reason. Getting passed Westfall will be tough, but I think they do it.BudLytle wrote: ↑Thu Jan 10, 2019 12:08 am Boo Sturgill (Wheelersburg) is the real deal... she can flat play!

Carissa Wheeler is a Freshman to watch out of the SVC. Very skilled catcher and hitter. Her dad played minor league ball for the Astros, and she definitely has a lot of that skill. Wouldn't be surprised to see her playing D1 college ball.captainmorgan_ wrote: ↑Thu Dec 27, 2018 3:56 pm to get back on topic
