Very good points. I'll give it to Green on this though. They have played Clay, ND and Symmes Valley solid for the most part. All while still being the youngest of the group I believe. Starting 7 freshmen and sophmores. I'd like to see the scheduling out of conference get a little tougher too.

I think ND only graduates 1 senior , they are not going anywhere . Green is much improved , good group coming through it sounds like , but he statement was " they have the best defense in the SOC 1 " and with 2 state ranked teams above them I think thats kinda over selling their progress .

I think where we differ on is Clay and Notre Dame thrive off of the excellent pitching Oliver and Schaeffer provide them. Those girls give up VERY few hard hit balls and average several strikeouts a game.
Greens pitchers are young strike throwers, throwing id say in the mid 40s. They average only a couple strike outs a game while the other 19 outs a game is put on the defense to make plays and they have been.

I know you've been around enough ball to have seen how a dominate pitcher can hide average defenses.

Definitely looks like many of the teams in the SOC 1 have a good number of quality wins for the season. I may make the trip to see the Clay-Jackson game coming up because I feel that will be a great game to prepare for the tournament. I have to disagree with Truth about Clay and ND having the ability to hide average defense. I completely understand that both teams do have great pitching but they have faced teams that have hit the ball well also. If they just had average defenses then they would have given up many more runs for the season. Let's compare the teams in terms of runs scored/run against:

Clay has scored 188 runs and only given up 36 (keep in mind at least 4 quality wins vs bigger division teams with winning records along with 2018 state runner-up)
ND has scored 192 runs and given up 27 (at least 3 quality wins vs bigger division teams including Ironton who has only lost to ND)
Symmes Valley has scored 145 runs and given up 78 (3 quality wins with 2 larger division teams and probably would add Fairland to that list)
Green have scored 191 runs and given up 139 (only team that beat was SV with a winning record and rest of the wins are teams with fewer than 4 W)

Don't get me wrong or take away from any players because I am sure there has been some great plays for the season from each and every team. It does get me that people try to use excuses such as youth or kids transferring as an excuse. It is my hope that I get the see some of the quality pitchers throw in the next couple of weeks that have been mentioned. Sounds like Green has a good one who throws strikes and throws in the 40's. Do you have a radar gun or something to judge this or are you just throwing a number off the top of your head?

Just to get the conversation started I copied the sectional final games over to this post. My Predictions are below. Don't see any real upsets. I have all the higher seeds winning. My winners in BOLD.

If I was going to watch a game I think the Manchester vs Green game would be a close game to watch maybe.

Federal Hocking v Waterford
Green v Manchester
Whiteoak v Notre Dame
Trimble v South Webster
Paint Valley v Clay
Belpre v Eastern Meigs
Beaver Eastern v Symmes Valley
Valley v Peebles

I agree with your predictions. However I don't see the Manchester vs Green game being very close, Green has not shown up to road games all season don't think it will start now. It could be an early night in Manchester.

Green’s season did come to an end yesterday with a 10-3 loss to Manchester. They still only had one quality win over a Symmes Valley team with a winning record. We have to remember that SV’s season came to an end also on their first game of the tourney to a sub-par Eastern team. Clay also lost to A Paint Valley team in the tourney this week who had only won a handful of games and Green was mercy ruled by them also this week for the second time this season. The season is coming to a close for many and we have already started seeing other conferences announce their all league and district teams. It will be interesting to see who makes All-SOC. I heard the water cooler talk had already taken place so we just have to wait for the results to the public.

Crazy weekend for this SOC for sure.
Still waiting to hear what happened in the Clay and Symmes Valley games as those should have been locks for them to win.
Manchester would easily have been a top 2 team in the SOC. I was really impressed seeing them play this week. Id bet money they aren't done winning in the Tourney right now.
Don't get too excited for the All District and SOC teams. Someone always gets their feelings hurt and can't wait to cry about it. The coaches and players know who the real players are around here.

a shame that the picks often get so jacked its impossible not to talk about it . I dont have any dog in the ring , just be nice that the coaches get it close to being right and simply reward the players that had the best season and forget the reputations and the " she's playing at the next level" sort of stuff. Anyone that promotes themselves can play " at the next level" . Theres a college team out there for anyone that wants to play .

Very true and colleges give little craps about SOC and All District Awards. For the most part from what I've seen the coaches get them right. If a kid has the numbers, she has the numbers. If she's in the middle of the pack with a group of other girls. Then she doesn't have the numbers and it's up to the Coaches who see the players every day to decide and not some parent with dad goggles.

The only thing that bothers me is how it gets talked about on this forum. It's ok yo say "this kid or that kid were deserving too" it's not ok to attack a kid over it. For some reason it's just softball too. Not a word gets said in the basketball, volleyball, baseball or football forums.

I guess those Coaches must all get it right :D

There have been some really egregious choices , more so with the SOC1 than the 2 , but last year the 2 was pretty off . There is 1 particular SOC1 school who every year has players rewarded above their performance. Just gets old. I'll leave it at that.
